[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] '2026년 부산광역시 기능경기대회'가 6일 오전 10시 부산시청 국제회의실에서 개회식을 열고 5일간의 기술 경연에 들어갔다.
부산광역시 기능경기위원회가 주관하는 이번 대회는 오는10일까지 부산기계공업고등학교, 한국폴리텍대학 부산캠퍼스, 부산여자대학교 등 9개 경기장에서 진행된다. 대회에는 7개 분과 47개 직종의 선수 331명이 참가해 각자의 숙련 기술을 겨룬다.
올해는 ‘광역화 시행’ 제도를 처음 도입해 참가 인원이 적은 직종을 인근 지역과 통합 운영한다. 이에 따라 가구 직종은 김해에서, 자동차페인팅은 창원에서 열리고 귀금속공예와 판금철골구조물 직종은 부산에서 진행된다.
직종별 입상자에게는 메달과 상금이 수여되며, 오는 8월 인천에서 열리는 「제61회 전국기능경기대회」에 부산 대표로 참가할 자격이 주어진다.
대회 기간 동안 부산기계공업고등학교에서는 시민을 위한 다양한 체험행사도 마련됐다. 대한민국명장회 부산지회 등 5개 숙련단체가 참여해 궁중복식 전시, 네일아트 체험, 발효차·피자 만들기, 자장면 시식 등 프로그램을 운영한다.
송길용 부산광역시 기능경기위원회 운영위원장은 “광역화 시행을 통해 일부 직종의 운영 한계를 보완하고, 내실 있는 대회를 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 선수 중심의 운영으로 기능경기 저변 확대에 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.

박형준 부산시장도 “기능경기대회는 숙련기술인의 자긍심을 높이고 지역 산업의 미래를 이끌 기술 인재를 발굴하는 최대 규모의 기술 경연”이라며 “선수들이 그동안 갈고닦은 실력을 마음껏 발휘하길 바란다”고 전했다.

The 2026 Busan Metropolitan Skills Competition opened Monday morning with a ceremony at City Hall’s international conference room, launching five days of contests showcasing the city’s top technical talent.
Hosted by the Busan Metropolitan Skills Competition Committee, the event runs through April 10 at nine venues including Busan Mechanical Technical High School, Busan Women’s University, and Busan Polytechnic College. A total of 331 competitors are taking part in 47 categories across seven divisions.
This year’s competition introduces a new “regional integration system” that combines events with nearby cities for trades with fewer participants. The furniture event will be held in Gimhae, automobile painting in Changwon, while jewelry craft and sheet metal structure contests take place in Busan.
Winners in each category will receive medals and prize money, as well as the opportunity to represent Busan at the 61st National Skills Competition in Incheon this August.
During the event, Busan Mechanical Technical High School will host hands-on programs for citizens and visitors, including royal costume exhibits, nail art, fermentation tea and pizza-making workshops, and food-tasting events organized by five skilled craftsmen’s associations.
Song Gil-yong, executive chairman of the committee, said the integration initiative is expected to strengthen competition management and broaden participation across trades. Mayor Park Heong-joon called the event “the city’s largest showcase for skilled professionals,” encouraging contestants to “demonstrate the expertise they have worked hard to master.”
