[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] ‘깊이를 마주하다’(Face the Depth)를 주제로 지난달 27일부터 4월 5일까지 진행된 ‘2026 통영국제음악제’가 통영국제음악당을 봄의 소리로 물들이며 성황리에 막을 내렸다.
진은숙 작곡가가 예술감독을 맡고 있는 통영국제음악제는 올해 세계적인 현대음악 작곡가 조지 벤저민 경, 우리 시대를 대표하는 바이올리니스트 아우구스틴 하델리히, 경계를 넘나드는 활동으로 주목받고 있는 카운터테너 야쿠프 유제프 오를린스키가 상주작곡가와 상주연주자로 참여해 음악적 깊이를 더했다.
조지 벤저민 경의 작품은 세계적인 현대음악 전문 연주단체 앙상블 모데른과 샌프란시스코 심포니 오케스트라 수석 플루티스트 김유빈, 통영페스티벌오케스트라가 연주해 현대음악의 정수를 들려줬다.
아우구스틴 하델리히는 리사이틀과 두 차례의 협연은 물론 우리나라 젊은 연주자 박하양, 최하영과의 실내악 무대까지 선보이며 다양한 기량을 발휘했다.

이처럼 다채롭고 풍성한 프로그램에 힘입어 통영국제음악제는 진은숙 예술감독 부임 이후 매년 관객 수가 증가해 올해는 작년 대비 약 5% 증가한 1만 5500여 명의 관객이 음악제를 찾았으며, 좌석 점유율은 82%를 차지했다. 이로 인한 티켓 판매 수익 또한 매년 증가해 국내외 주요 음악축제로서의 위상을 다시 한번 입증했다.
