원주시는 우산동 한라비발디 아파트 인근(우산동 770-2번지 일원)에 총면적 1,700㎡, 주차 면수 55면 규모의 '쌈지 공영주차장' 조성을 완벽히 마무리했다고 밝혔다.
지난 3월 첫 삽을 뜬 지 한 달여 만에 발 빠르게 준공된 이번 공영주차장 부지는, 당초 도시계획도로 미개설 구간으로 남아 쓰임새 없이 방치되던 유휴 공간이었다. 시는 향후 도로 개설이 재추진될 경우 주차장을 원상 복구한다는 전제하에, 빈 땅을 주민들에게 가장 절실한 주차장으로 재탄생시키며 토지 활용의 효율성을 극대화하는 '적극 행정'을 펼쳤다.
특히 최근 원주의 핫플레이스로 떠오른 '바람길숲'의 방문객이 날로 급증하면서 주차 수요가 폭발적으로 늘어나는 가운데, 이번 쌈지 주차장 개장은 인근 주민들의 주차 불편을 덜어주는 동시에 쾌적한 관광 환경을 제공하는 '효자' 역할을 톡톡히 할 전망이다.
