‘포스코해외유학장학’은 국내 우수 인재들이 경제적 부담 없이 해외 유수 대학에서 연구에 전념할 수 있도록 지원하는 대표 장학 프로그램이다. 재단은 그간 글로벌 교육 환경 변화에 맞춰 장학사업 포트폴리오를 유연하게 재편해 왔으며, 최근 국가 간 지식 경쟁 심화에 대응해 미래 국가경쟁력의 핵심인 인재 양성을 위해 사업 재개를 결정했다.
포스코청암재단은 1985년부터 2018년까지 포스코해외유학장학(박사 71명), 베세머유학장학(학부 16명), 아시아유학장학(석·박사 102명) 등 다양한 프로그램을 통해 해외 유학 인재를 지속적으로 배출해 왔다. 이들 장학생은 현재 국내외 대학과 연구기관에서 교수 및 연구자로 활동하며 산업 발전에 기여하고 있다.
이번 모집 대상은 2026년 9월 해외 명문대 박사과정 입학 예정인 대한민국 국적자로, 인문·사회과학부터 자연과학·공학 분야까지 폭넓게 선발한다. 특히 전공별 세계 최고 수준 대학 기준을 적용해 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖춘 연구 인재를 엄선할 계획이다.
최종 선발 인원은 연간 2명 내외로, 장학생에게는 연간 3만 달러의 생활비를 최대 5년간 지원하며, 별도로 입학축하금 1,500달러를 지급해 안정적인 학업 및 연구 환경을 제공한다.
지원 접수는 4월 9일부터 30일까지 재단 홈페이지를 통해 진행되며, 서류심사와 면접을 거쳐 오는 7월 최종 합격자를 발표할 예정이다.
포스코청암재단 관계자는 “장학생들이 학업과 연구에 온전히 몰입해 세계적 성과를 창출하고, 나아가 국가 발전에 기여하는 인재로 성장할 수 있도록 지속적인 지원을 이어갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.

POSCO Cheongam Foundation Resumes ‘POSCO Overseas Study Scholarship’ to Foster Global PhD Talent From 1985 to 2018, the POSCO Chungam Foundation has consistently produced talented individuals for overseas study through various programs, including the POSCO Overseas Study Scholarship (71 Ph.D. recipients), the Bessemer Study Scholarship (16 undergraduate recipients), and the Asia Study Scholarship (102 master's and doctoral recipients). These scholarship recipients are currently active as professors and researchers at universities and research institutions both domestically and internationally, contributing to industrial development.
This recruitment targets South Korean citizens planning to enroll in doctoral programs at prestigious overseas universities in September 2026, with a broad selection process covering fields ranging from the humanities and social sciences to natural sciences and engineering. In particular, the foundation plans to rigorously select research talents with global competitiveness by applying the standards of world-class universities for each major.
Approximately two recipients will be selected annually. Scholarship recipients will receive an annual living allowance of $30,000 for up to five years, along with an additional admission congratulatory grant of $1,500, to provide a stable environment for their studies and research. Applications will be accepted via the foundation's website from April 9 to 30, and final successful candidates are scheduled to be announced this coming July following document screening and interviews.
