[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시장 선거를 불과 54일 앞두고 검찰이 더불어민주당 전재수 의원 관련 시계 수수 의혹 수사를 ‘공소권 없음’으로 종결하자 정치권의 비판이 거세다.
박형준 국민의힘 부산광역시장 경선선거대책본부는 10일 성명을 내고, 전재수 의원 관련 수사 결과에 대해 "혹시나가 역시나였다"며 합동수사본부의 발표를 강력히 비판했다.
합수본이 전 의원에게는 '공소권 없음' 처분을, 보좌진 4명에게는 '불구속 기소' 결정을 내린 것에 대해 "꼬리가 기소됐다는 것은 몸통의 죄가 있었다는 뜻"이라며 날을 세웠다.
박형준 캠프 측은 이번 수사 결과가 발표된 시점에 주목했다. "선거를 54일 앞둔 시점에 공소권 없음과 혐의없음을 한데 묶어 마치 전면 무혐의인 양 포장했다"며 "여론을 기만하는 발표 방식 자체가 이미 면죄부"라고 규탄했다.
특히 사건의 실체와 관련해 "시계 영수증이 있고, 수리 기록이 있고, 세계본부장의 직접 진술이 있다"며 "시계를 받은 사실만큼은 덮을래야 덮을 수 없었던 것"이라고 강조했다.
이어 수사 과정에서의 문제점도 조목조목 짚었다. 캠프 측은 "수사가 지연되는 사이 파쇄기는 돌았고, PC는 초기화됐고, 하드디스크는 밭두렁에 버려졌다"며 증거인멸 상황을 지적했다. 그럼에도 불구하고 합수본이 '공소시효 완성'으로 수사를 마무리한 것에 대해 "무죄가 아니라 빠져나갈 구멍을 찾아준 것"이라며 "시효가 만료될 때까지 수사를 끌어온 수사기관도 이 결과의 책임에서 자유롭지 않다"고 비판했다.
또한 이번 처분이 민주당이 주도한 법왜곡죄(형법 제123조의2)의 전형이라고 몰아붙였다. 박형준 후보 캠프는 "자신이 만든 법을 자신이 가장 먼저 어기는 것, 그것이 정치 방탄이자 독재"라며 "입법·행정·사법이 한 방향을 향할 때 민주주의는 무너진다"고 경고했다.
이어 "이재명 정부가 전재수 카드에 사법 면죄부까지 쏟아부은 이유는 부산을 가져가 영남의 지형을 바꾸려는 지방권력 장악 의도"라고 직설했다.
박 후보 캠프 서지연 대변인은 오는 6·3 지방선거의 의미를 부여하며 "대한민국의 운명을 가르는 선거"라며 "선거 직전 수사 종결로 면죄부를 받은 후보, 법왜곡 의혹의 수사로 사법을 비껴간 후보는 부산 시민에게 엄중히 심판받을 것"이라며 유권자들의 현명한 판단을 촉구했다.

With only 54 days left before the Busan mayoral election, the prosecution’s decision to close an investigation into Democratic Party lawmaker Jeon Jae-soo under the label “statute of limitations expired” has sparked fierce political criticism.
On April 10, Park Hyung-jun’s People Power Party (PPP) Busan mayoral campaign issued a statement condemning the joint investigation team’s conclusion, saying, “We expected this — and it happened again,” calling the announcement “a deliberate attempt to grant immunity.”
The campaign pointed to the contrasting decisions—Jeon receiving “no right to prosecute” while four of his aides faced indictment without detention—remarking, “If the tails were charged, that means the body bears guilt as well.”
Park’s campaign also questioned the timing of the announcement, arguing that prosecutors strategically released the results ahead of the election. “By packaging ‘no right to prosecute’ together with ‘no charges’ just 54 days before the vote, the prosecution made it look like a full acquittal,” the statement read. “Such manipulation of public perception is itself a form of exoneration.”
The campaign emphasized that the case was clear-cut: “There are receipts for the watch, repair records, and direct testimony from the global head office. The fact of receiving the watch simply cannot be erased.”
They further accused investigators of mishandling the case, noting that “as the probe dragged on, shredders ran, PCs were reset, and hard drives were dumped in fields.” Despite clear evidence of destruction, the campaign argued the prosecutors delayed the case until the statute of limitations expired—“not to prove innocence, but to find a legal loophole.”
The statement also denounced the outcome as a “textbook case” of the *Law Distortion Act* (Criminal Act Article 123-2), a statute proposed by the Democratic Party itself. “The party that wrote the law is now the first to break it,” the campaign said. “When the legislative, executive, and judicial branches all move in one direction, democracy collapses. That’s not governance—it’s the completion of dictatorship.”
Park’s camp went further, alleging the administration’s true motive. “The decision to shield Jeon Jae-soo was part of a broader strategy to seize local power. If they take Busan, they can reshape Yeongnam’s political map,” the statement said.
Seo Ji-yeon, spokesperson for Park Hyung-jun’s campaign, underscored the significance of the upcoming June 3 local elections, calling them “a watershed moment that will determine the fate of the Republic of Korea.” She added, “A candidate who received a prosecutorial free pass just before the election, a candidate who evaded justice under the guise of legal distortion, will face the stern judgment of Busan’s citizens,” urging voters to “make a wise and resolute choice.”
