충남 당진시가 인공지능(AI) 기술을 세무 행정에 접목해 지방세 처리의 정확도를 높이고 행정 효율성을 획기적으로 개선한다.
당진시는 딥러닝 기반의 광학 문자 인식(OCR) 기술을 활용한 ‘AI 지능형 수기고지서 세입처리 자동화 시스템’을 전격 도입하고, 오는 21일부터 정식 운영에 들어간다고 10일 밝혔다.
그동안 지방세 업무의 전산화가 상당 부분 진행됐음에도 불구하고, 일부 신고 세목은 납세자가 종이 고지서에 직접 금액 등을 기재해 납부하는 수기 방식을 유지해 왔다.
이 과정에서 담당 공무원이 수기 내용을 일일이 전산 시스템에 재입력해야 하는 번거로움이 있었고, 처리 지연이나 오타 등 인적 오류에 대한 우려도 지속적으로 제기되어 왔다.
새로 도입되는 시스템은 인공지능이 수기로 작성된 문자나 숫자를 스스로 인식해 전산 데이터로 즉시 자동 변환하는 방식이다. 수기 입력 과정이 사라짐에 따라 행정 업무 효율이 90% 이상 대폭 향상될 것으로 보이며, 세입 처리의 속도와 정확성 또한 완벽에 가까운 수준으로 확보될 전망이다.
당진시는 시스템의 성공적인 정착을 위해 지난 7일 징수과 공무원들을 대상으로 운영 방식 및 활용 방안에 대한 실무 교육을 마쳤다. 현재는 정식 가동에 앞서 데이터 인식 오류를 최소화하고 안정성을 검증하기 위한 최종 시범 테스트에 주력하고 있다.
