<브레이크뉴스 원주 = 김일웅 기자> 원주시가 제56주년 ‘지구의 날’을 기념해 탄소중립의 중요성을 알리고 시민들의 실천을 독려하는 특별한 일주일을 선사한다.
14일 원주시에 따르면, 시는 오는 4월 20일부터 24일까지 5일간을 기후변화주간으로 정하고 ‘지구는 GX중! 탄소중립 실천으로 세상을 잇다’라는 슬로건 아래 다채로운 시민 참여 프로그램을 운영한다.

이번 주간의 하이라이트는 오는 22일 저녁 8시에 진행되는 ‘전국 동시 소등 행사’다. 지구의 날을 맞아 10분간 전등을 끄고 지구에 휴식을 주는 이번 행사는 원주시 관내 공공기관은 물론 공동주택과 일반 가정까지 대대적으로 참여해 탄소중립 실천 의지를 다질 예정이다.

이에 앞서 오는 18일(토) 오후 1시부터 5시까지 행구수변공원에서는 가족 단위 방문객을 위한 <지구야 사랑해 “우리 지구 정상 영업중”> 행사가 화려하게 펼쳐진다.
특히 이번 축제는 ‘쓰레기 제로’, ‘일회용품 없는 행사’를 지향하며 최소한의 전력만을 사용하는 ‘저탄소 방식’으로 운영돼 의미를 더한다. 현장에는 지역 내 27개 유관 기관 및 단체가 참여해 ▲기후변화 체험 부스 ▲친환경 만들기 프로그램 ▲탄소중립 퀴즈 등 아이부터 어른까지 즐겁게 체험하며 환경의 소중함을 느낄 수 있는 풍성한 콘텐츠를 선보인다.
원주시 관계자는 “이번 기후변화주간을 통해 시민들이 일상 속 작은 실천이 지구를 살리는 큰 변화의 시작임을 체감하길 바란다”며, “앞으로도 기후 위기 대응을 위한 실질적인 방안을 제시하고, 지속 가능한 탄소중립도시 원주를 만드는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
