[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 더불어민주당 영남권 광역단체장 후보들이 고 노무현 전 대통령의 묘역이 있는 봉하마을에 결집해 수도권 일극 체제 타파와 제2 수도권 시대 개막을 약속했다.
전재수 부산시장 후보와 김상욱 울산시장 후보, 김경수 경남도지사 후보는 14일 경남 김해 봉하마을에서 공동 기자회견을 열었다. 이들은 이 자리에서 국민의힘에 의해 중단된 부울경 메가시티를 즉각 복원하고 경계 없는 하나의 경제권을 구축하겠다는 의지를 천명했다.
전재수 후보는 도입 발언을 통해 균형발전의 심장을 다시 뛰게 하겠다고 강조하며 대한민국 제2 수도권 시대의 시작을 알렸다. 전 후보는 세 후보가 모인 것은 수도권 일극 체제를 타파할 준비가 끝났음을 의미한다며 메가시티 복원을 향한 강력한 의지를 드러냈다.
김상욱 후보는 부울경이 산업화와 민주화의 뿌리였음을 상기시킨 뒤, 현재는 청년 유출과 소멸 위기에 직면해 있다고 진단했다. 김 후보는 보수정당의 정치적 욕심으로 멈춘 메가시티를 반드시 되살려야 한다고 주장했다.
김경수 후보는 이재명 정부의 지방 주도 성장 원칙을 바탕으로 역대 최대 규모의 예산 확보와 투자를 이끌어내겠다고 약속했다. 김 후보는 중앙정부의 강력한 의지를 실천 동력으로 삼아 메가시티 복원의 실행력을 높이겠다고 설명했다.
민주당 영남권 후보들은 실질적인 공동 공약도 함께 발표했다. 주요 내용은 부울경 메가시티의 즉시 복원을 포함해 해양수도 부산, AI 제조혁신 수도 울산, 글로벌 미래산업 수도 경남을 통한 산업 재도약, 광역 교통망 완성을 통한 30분 생활권 구축 등이다.
전 후보는 기자회견을 마무리하며 민주당 원팀은 대한민국 지도를 바꿀 비전과 실행력을 갖추고 있다고 강조했다. 이번 회동은 세 후보가 확정된 후 처음 가진 공식 일정으로, 중단된 메가시티 논의를 민주당 주도로 전환하겠다는 정무적 판단이 담긴 것으로 풀이된다.

Democratic Party of Korea candidates for major local government posts in the Yeongnam region gathered at Bongha Village, the site of the late President Roh Moo-hyun's memorial, to pledge an end to the Seoul-centric unipolar system and the opening of a "Second Metropolitan Area" era.
Busan mayoral candidate Jeon Jae-soo, Ulsan mayoral candidate Kim Sang-uk, and South Gyeongsang gubernatorial candidate Kim Kyoung-soo held a joint press conference on the 14th at Bongha Village in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province. During the event, they declared their commitment to immediately restore the Bu-Ul-Gyeong (Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam) Megacity project, which they claimed was halted by the People Power Party, and to establish a single, borderless economic zone.
In his opening remarks, candidate Jeon Jae-soo emphasized his intent to restart the "heart of balanced development" and announced the beginning of South Korea’s Second Metropolitan Area era. Jeon stated that the gathering of the three candidates signifies that preparations to dismantle the Seoul-centric system are complete, expressing strong determination toward the megacity's restoration.
Candidate Kim Sang-uk reminded the audience that the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region was the root of South Korea’s industrialization and democratization, but diagnosed it as currently facing a crisis of youth outflow and local extinction. Kim argued that the megacity project, stopped due to the "political greed of the conservative party," must be revived.
Candidate Kim Kyoung-soo promised to secure record-breaking budgets and investments based on the Lee Jae-myung administration's principle of "locally-led growth." He explained that the central government's strong will would serve as the driving force to enhance the implementation of the megacity restoration.
The Democratic Party's Yeongnam candidates also announced practical joint pledges. Key points include the immediate restoration of the Bu-Ul-Gyeong Megacity, industrial revitalization through Busan as a maritime capital, Ulsan as an AI manufacturing innovation capital, and South Gyeongsang as a global future industry capital, and the establishment of a 30-minute living zone via a completed wide-area transportation network.
Closing the press conference, Jeon emphasized that the Democratic Party "One Team" possesses the vision and power to redraw the map of South Korea. This meeting, the first official schedule since the three candidates were confirmed, is interpreted as a strategic move to shift the stalled megacity discourse back to the leadership of the Democratic Party.
