충남 당진시가 산림청이 주관하는 ‘정원드림프로젝트’ 공모에 선정돼 지역 내 유휴부지 5곳을 새롭게 정원 공간으로 탈바꿈시킨다. 이번 선정으로 시는 총 2억 5천만 원의 국비를 확보했다.
‘정원드림프로젝트’는 정원학을 전공한 대학생과 졸업생 등이 전문 정원 작가의 멘토링을 받아 직접 정원을 설계·조성하는 실습형 프로그램이다. 2020년부터 산림청이 추진 중이며, 청년 인재 양성과 정원문화 확산을 동시에 도모하는 대표적인 참여형 사업으로 평가된다.
올해 당진시에서 조성될 실습정원은 ‘K-동화정원’을 주제로 한다. 한국 전래동화를 모티브로 감성적인 이야기 요소와 예술적 공간 연출을 결합해, 시민들에게 휴식과 감성을 모두 누릴 수 있는 도심 속 작은 정원으로 꾸며질 예정이다.
사업 대상지는 당진시청 부지 2곳과 청소년카페 수다벅스 2호점, 당진보건소, 송악도서관 등 시민 이용이 많은 생활권 시설 5개소다.
특히 이번 사업은 전액 국비로 추진되며, 개소당 5천만 원씩 총 2억 5천만 원이 투입된다. 시 재정 부담 없이 시민 중심의 녹색 인프라를 확충할 수 있는 점이 눈에 띈다.
