<브레이크뉴스 원주 = 김일웅 기자> 원주시와 원주경찰서가 불법 성매매의 온상으로 지목되어 온 옛 원주역 인근 성매매 집결지, 일명 ‘희매촌’의 완전한 폐쇄를 위해 칼을 빼 들었다.
16일 원주시에 따르면, 시와 경찰서는 지난 14일 오후 8시부터 10시까지 희매촌 일대에서 불법 성매매 행위 근절과 지역 주민들의 안전망 확보를 위한 야간 합동순찰을 전격 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이번 합동순찰은 성매수자의 접근을 원천 차단하고, 은밀하게 이루어지는 불법 행위에 대한 강력한 단속 의지를 보여주기 위해 추진됐다. 이날 현장에는 원주시 및 원주경찰서 관계자 20여 명이 투입되어 집결지 내외부 환경을 살피고 치안 상태를 집중 점검했다.

순찰 직후에는 인근 여성커뮤니티센터에서 희매촌 폐쇄를 앞당기기 위한 양 기관의 실무 협력 간담회가 이어졌다. 이 자리에서 원주시는 경찰의 야간 순찰 노고에 감사를 표하며, 성매매 집결지가 역사 속으로 완전히 사라질 때까지 정기적인 합동순찰을 지속해 줄 것을 요청했다.
