<브레이크뉴스 원주 = 김일웅 기자> 원주시가 지역 청년들과 손잡고 탄소중립 실천 문화 확산을 위한 본격적인 행보에 나섰다.
16일 원주시에 따르면, 시와 원주시탄소중립지원센터는 지난 14일 상지대학교 본관 강당에서 ‘2026년 원주시 탄소중립 서포터즈 3기 발대식’을 열고 본격적인 활동의 서막을 올렸다고 밝혔다.
이날 발대식에는 원주시 관계자를 비롯해 관내 대학, 공공기관, 시민단체 등 다양한 지역 사회 구성원들이 참석해 뜻을 모았다. 행사는 서포터즈 활동 방향을 공유하는 1부 발대식과 단원들의 실무 역량을 다지는 2부 오리엔테이션으로 나뉘어 내실 있게 진행됐다.

특히 1부에서는 한국기후변화연구원 박수진 기후재난연구실장이 나서 ‘탄소중립 서포터즈 활동의 의미’를 주제로 깊이 있는 특강을 진행해 단원들의 사명감을 고취시켰으며, 이어 임명장 수여식이 거행됐다. 2부에서는 팀 구성 및 사전 캠페인 체험 등을 통해 단원 간의 결속력을 다지는 시간을 가졌다.
올해로 3회째를 맞은 탄소중립 서포터즈는 기후 위기에 대한 시민들의 인식을 개선하기 위해 지역 청년들의 톡톡 튀는 아이디어를 바탕으로 온·오프라인 캠페인 기획, 탄소중립 홍보 콘텐츠 제작 등 다방면에서 활약할 예정이다. 아울러 시와 센터는 매년 지역 주요 축제 및 행사와 연계해 시민들이 일상에서 쉽게 참여할 수 있는 밀착형 실천 캠페인을 지속적으로 전개하고 있다.
맹순재 원주시 기후대응과장은 “이번 3기 서포터즈 청년들의 뜨거운 열정과 창의적인 활동이 원주시가 탄소중립 선도 도시로 도약하는 데 든든한 밑거름이 될 것”이라며, “서포터즈의 선한 영향력이 지역 사회 곳곳에 일상적인 실천 문화로 깊이 뿌리내릴 수 있도록 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 전했다.
