<브레이크뉴스 강원 = 김일웅 기자> 북부지방산림청과 현대백화점그룹이 기후 위기 극복과 건강한 산림 생태계 조성을 위해 두 팔을 걷어붙였다.

16일 북부지방산림청에 따르면, 산림청과 현대백화점그룹은 이날 경기도 용인시 처인구 일원에서 탄소중립 실천과 민간 기업 ESG 협력의 일환으로 ‘REGREEN-다음 세대를 위한 나무 심기’ 행사를 성공적으로 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 행사에는 산림청 관계자를 비롯해 현대백화점그룹 윤영식 부사장 및 임직원, ㈔생명의숲 김석권 공동대표와 회원 등 60여 명이 한데 모여 굵은 땀방울을 흘리며 낙엽송 900그루를 정성껏 심었다.
앞서 북부지방산림청은 현대백화점그룹, ㈔생명의숲과 지난 2025년 3월 공동산림사업 협약을 체결한 바 있다. 이후 경기도 용인시 처인구 묵리 일대 약 9만㎡ 규모의 국유림에 ‘탄소중립의 숲’을 꾸준히 조성해 오고 있다. 이를 통해 일상생활과 산업 활동에서 발생하는 이산화탄소를 적극적으로 흡수하는 등 국가적 온실가스 감축 목표 달성에 크게 이바지하고 있다.

송준호 북부지방산림청장은 “국민의 삶을 지키는 소중한 기반인 산림은 다가오는 기후 위기에 대응하는 가장 핵심적인 자산”이라며, “앞으로도 공동산림사업을 매개로 민간 기업과의 상생 협력을 더욱 강화해, 탄소중립 실현과 지속 가능한 산림 관리의 훌륭한 성공 모델을 폭넓게 확대해 나가겠다”고 전했다.
