6ㆍ3 지방선거 더불어민주당 세종시장 후보에 조상호 전 부시장이 16일 선출됐다.
조 전 부시장은 지난 14일부터 사흘간 진행된 결선투표에서 이춘희 전 시장을 물리치고 세종시장 선거 민주당 후보로 확정됐다.
조 후보는 경선 초반부터 형성된 이춘희 대세론과 경선 예비 후보들 잇따른 지지 선언에 불구하고 막판 승리를 이끌어 냈다.
이번 결선은 지난 14일부터 16일까지 권리당원 (50%)안심번호 (50%) 선거인단 방식으로 치러졌으며 후보별 득표율은 당 규정에 따라 공개되지 않았다.
앞서 세종시장 경선은 조상호 전 부시장 , 이춘희 전 시장 ,고준일 전 세종시의회 의장, 김수현 더민주세종혁신회의 상임대표, 홍순식 전 충남대 겸임부교수 등 5인을 대상으로 진행됐다.
과반 득표자가 없어 당규에 따라 최다 득표자 2인 (조상호, 이춘희,)의 결선으로 이어졌다.,
민주당이 조 후보를 최종 낙점하면서 6ㆍ3지방 선거 세종시장 선거는 단수 공천을 확정 지은 국민의힘 소속 최민호 현 시장과 조국혁신당 황운하 국회의원, 개혁신당 하헌휘 후보 등 다자 구도를 갖추게 됐다.
조 후보는 2018년 이해찬 의원이 민주당 대표로 당선되면서 정무조정 실장을 맡았다.
이후 이강진 전 세종 정무 부시장이 21대 총선을 위해 사퇴하자 이춘희 시장이 정책특보와 비서실장으로 현안을 잘알고 있는 조 전 특보를 세종시 정무부 시장으로 임용했다.
