금오공대, 국내대학 최초 5G 국가망 설치

금오공과대학교(총장 이상철) 캠퍼스에 국내 대학 가운데 최초로 28GHz의 5G 국가망이 구축된다.

1일, 학교에 따르면 행정안전부 및 한국지능정보사회진흥원에서 추진하는 ‘5G 국가망 구축 실증사업’의 일환으로, LG유플러스가 주관하여 금오공대 캠퍼스 내 본관, 산학협력관, 생활관 등 12개 건물에 오는 9월 말까지 28GHz의 5G 국가망 설치를 완료할 예정이다.

100여 명의 교내 구성원을 시범 사용자로 선정해 다양한 5G 관련 실증 서비스를 경험하도록 하고, 시험 검증 전문 기관을 통해 품질 및 안정성과 실증 전문성을 지속적으로 검증할 계획으로 기존의 유선 LAN 기반의 업무환경이 5G 기반의 모바일 환경으로 전환되면 고품질의 언택트 교육과 산학협력 등이 활성화될 것으로 기대된다.

5G 국가망을 바탕으로 한 클라우드 시스템은 교내·외 동일한 원격근무 환경을 제공하고, R&D 과제 발굴부터 제품(서비스) 결과물의 상용화 단계까지 하나의 플랫폼으로 관리할 수 있는 산학협력을 가능하게 한다.

무엇보다 저지연, 초실감, 고해상도의 소통형 화상 교육을 실시할 수 있게 되어 비대면 실험, 강의, 실습 교육 등 5G 캠퍼스에서 특화된 서비스를 제공하게 될 전망이다.

김동성 산학협력단장(ICT융합특성화연구센터장 겸무)은 “금오공대에 구축될 28GHz 5G 인프라를 바탕으로 스마트팩토리·로봇·드론·VR(가상현실)·AR(증강현실) 등을 활용한 교육 및 산학협력을 활성화할 뿐만 아니라, 현재 지역 유관기관과 함께 시행하고 있는 강소연구개발특구 및 스마트그린산단사업 등 다양한 국책 사업과의 시너지도 훨씬 크게 작용할 것으로 기대하고 있다”며, “5G로 실현할 수 있는 콘텐츠 및 서비스 플랫폼 구축을 통해 정부 업무망 모바일화 레퍼런스 사업의 방향성을 제시할 수 있는 모델이 되겠다”고 말했다.
