경북교육청(교육감 임종식)은 화재 피해를 입은 이후 임시 개장해 영업을 이어가는 영덕시장 상인들을 찾아 추석맞이 장보기 행사로 온정나누기에 나섰다.
16일 경북교육청은 민족 고유의 명절 추석을 앞두고 지역사회에 지역경제 활성화와 함께 조금이나마 힘을 보태고자 영덕 임시시장(구, 야성초등학교)을 찾았다.

이번 장보기 행사는 예상치 못한 화재로 삶의 터전을 잃어버리고 실의에 빠진 영덕시장 피해 상인들에게 용기와 희망을 심어주고 지역경제 안정과 전통시장 활력 회복을 위해 마련됐다.
이날 추석맞이 장보기 행사는 임종식 교육감과 백신접종을 완료한 본청 직원들이 소그룹으로 나눠 사회적 거리두기에 따른 방역 수칙을 준수한 가운데 진행되었다.
행사에 참석한 직원들은 화마가 휩쓸고 간 영덕시장이 하루빨리 복구돼 정상화되기를 바라며 임시시장 내에서 제수용품, 생활용품 등을 구매했다.
임종식 교육감은 “코로나19 장기화로 지역 전통시장이 힘든 시기에 추석 대목을 앞두고 갑작스런 화재까지 발생해 매우 안타깝다”며“이번 장보기 행사가 피해를 입은 상인들의 빠른 일상 복귀와 지역 전통시장 활성화에 조금이나마 도움이 되기를 기대한다”고 말했다.
