경북대학교(총장 홍원화)와 씨젠이 차세대 분자진단 시약 공동 개발을 위해 손을 맞잡았다.
경북대는 지난 1일 경북대 의과대학(칠곡메디캠퍼스)에서 ‘씨젠-경북대 분자진단 연구센터(이하 연구센터)’ 개소식을 개최하고 차세대 분자진단 시약 공동 개발에 나선다고 밝혔다.

이날 개소식에는 김시오 경북대 대외협력부총장, 이민철 씨젠 R&D부문 총괄사장, 윤진원 대구경북경제자유구역청 혁신성장본부장 등이 참석하였으며 연구센터 개소에 따라 씨젠은 진단시약 개발에 필요한 인프라와 개발 가이드라인을 경북대에 제공하고, 경북대는 시약 아이디어를 발굴해 직접 개발에 나선다.
이를 위해 양 기관은 올해 상반기 공모를 통해 경북대 연구진으로부터 제출된 아이디어 중 아이디어 중 시장 수요도, 개발 필요성, 분자진단 대중화 취지 적합성 등을 고려해 3개의 과제를 선정하였으며 이번 개발이 보유 중인 진단시약 포트폴리오를 확대하는데 도움이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
씨젠 이민철 사장은 “이번 경북대와의 협력이 성공모델로 정착해 전 세계 전문가라면 누구나 씨젠이 제공하는 플랫폼을 통해 현지에서 필요로 하는 진단시약을 신속하게 개발할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대한다.”라고 말했다.
