이에 시민안전실 김철섭 실장은 “최종결과가 11월에 나올 예정으로 현재까지 나온 결과로 추측하는 발생원인은 1호선 지하철 연장으로 해당 구간을 팠다가 되메우기 하는 과정이 미흡했던 점과 싱크홀 주변 노후 하수관로의 문제 등 여러 가지 요인이 있었던 것으로 판단하고 있다”고 사고발생 경위를 밝혔다
이에 임태상 의원은 “언제든 이런 일이 일어날 수 있는데 대구시의 점검이 너무 무사안일식이라는 생각이 든다”며 “대구시가 안전 취약시설에 대해 예방이 아니라 사고가 일어난 뒤 수습하는 경향이 있다”고 지적했다.
김철섭 실장은 “아직까지 지하공간 안전점검에 대한 체계 확립이 부족하다”며 “지하공간이 눈에 보이는 것이 아니어서 전문가들이 현재는 육안 점검을 하고 있지만 장비가 부족해 정밀한 점검에는 어려움이 있다”고 설명했다.
