계명대(총장 신일희)가 ‘제9회 대한민국 인성시민교육대상’에서 단체부문 최우수상인 부총리 겸 교육부 장관상을 수상했다고 11일 밝혔다.
‘대한민국 인성시민교육대상’은 실천적 인성시민교육 활성화에 기여한 개인, 기관·단체 및 학교를 발굴해 격려하기 위해 마련되었으며 인성시민교육의 실천배경 및 목표, 세부내용 및 방법, 지속·발전성 및 활동 관리, 프로그램의 우수성, 실천결과 및 공헌도 등에 대한 심사를 거쳤다.
이를 통해 최우수상을 수상한 계명대는 1899년 대구에 설립된 제중원(계명대 동산병원 전신)의 창립 정신을 구현하기 위해 지난 122년 동안 인성시민교육과 봉사활동을 활발히 전개해왔고 특히 3년간 4만 명이 넘는 학생들을 가르친 ‘지역과 세계에 빛을 전하는 글로벌 시티즌’ 프로그램 운영으로 높은 점수를 받았다.

또한 계명대는 교과교육에 이어 인성시민교육의 핵심가치와 덕목을 체화할 수 있도록 다양한 비교과 및 체험프로그램을 운영해왔다.
이를 통해 최근 3년간 재학생의 봉사활동 참여비율이 106.67%로 매우 높은 수준을 보이며 인성시민의 역량이 다양한 봉사활동을 통한 실천으로 연결되었음을 입증했다.
