계명대 동산도서관(관장 이종한)이 메타버스 도서관인 ‘동산빌리브’를 정식 오픈하고 서비스를 게시했다.
지난 9월부터 네이버 제페토 플랫폼을 활용한 메타버스 공간 구축을 진행해온 계명대 동산도서관은 실제 도서관의 모습을 최대한 반영하기 위해 바닥, 벽면 액자, 내부 인테리어를 스케치하고, 가상공간구축작업을 진행했다.

이를 통해 계명대 동산도서관 7층 건물을 그대로 메타버스에 구현한 동산빌리브는 지난 16일 공식적으로 오픈하고 가상의 사서가 상주하면서 방문하는 고객들을 맞이하고 있다.
또한 오픈을 기념하며 동산빌리브에서 자신의 아바타 사진을 촬영하여 게시판에 올리거나 가상의 사서에게 다양한 서비스를 받은 경험을 공유하는 이벤트를 개최할 예정이다.
계명대학교는 도서관 오픈에 따라 신입생, 신임교원 등을 위한 도서관 투어도 진행 중이며 동산빌리브 현관에 모여 가상의 사서가 안내하는 대로 도서관 전 층을 돌아볼 수 있다고 전했다.
아울러 계명대 동산도서관은 메타버스를 직접 제작하고 싶어 하는 학생들을 대상으로 제작 교육을 하거나 메타버스 방문 경험이 없는 학생들에게는 홍보 부스를 마련해 사용법을 전파하는 등 가상의 세계로 서비스를 확대해 나가고 있다.
이종한 계명대 동산도서관장은 “코로나19 상황 속에서 메타버스는 접근을 두려워하지 않는 MZ세대의 특성이 만나 도서관 서비스 확장의 새 지평을 열게 될 것으로 보인다.”며, “대학은 단순히 지식을 전달하는 공간이 아니라 학생들이 다양한 활동과 소통을 할 수 있는 공간으로 발전시켜 나가고자 한다.”고 말했다.
