브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 김재원 국민의힘 최고위원은 윤석열 국민의힘 대선후보가 '멸공 챌린지'에 동참한데 대해 "민주당 쪽 사람들이 이것을 가지고 비난하면서 일이 커졌다"고 주장했다. 조국 전 법무부 장관과 민주당측에서 논란의 도화선을 만들었기 때문에 윤석열 후보가 멸공 논란에 참여하게 됐다는 것이다.
김재원 최고위원은 11일 MBC 라디오 '김종배의 시선집중'에서 "중국은 우리의 우방국가"라며 "적대국가 적성국가인 북한에 대해서 얘기하는 것"이라며 이같이 밝혔다.
그는 멸공 논란의 시작점이 된 정용진 신세계 부회장의 글을 언급하며 "북한과 대치하고 있는 우리나라에 있는 기업인으로서 (북한이 미사일을 발사하면) 금리도 오르고 투자금도 빠져나가고 상황이니까 자신은 현실적인 문제를 멸공이라고 표시를 했다"고 설명했다.
이어 윤석열 후보가 이마트를 방문해 '달걀-파-멸치-콩'을 구입하며 '달파멸콩'이라고 언급하며 '멸공 챌린지'에 참여한데 대해선 "약간 코믹하게 또 선거국면이기 때문에 어떤 형태로든 나름대로 이벤트"라고 평가했다.
그는 "그분(정용진 부회장)은 그냥 개인적으로 늘 인스타그램 같은데 활동하는 분인데 그렇게 가만뒀으면 아무 문제가 없었을 것"이라며 "사실 윤석열 후보가 여기 개입할 상황은 아니었을 것 같은데, 조국 전 법무장관이 갑자기 정용진 부회장을 윤석열 같은 사람이라고 하니 윤석열 후보도 거기에 참여한 것 아닌가 싶다"고 부연했다.
