브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 오미크론 변이가 우세화되며 연일 신규 확진자가 역대 최대를 갱신하고 있는 가운데 재택 치료 중인 확진자들의 대선 투표 여부에 관심이 쏠리고 있다.
4일 보건당국에 따르면 제20대 대통령선거가 33일 앞으로 다가온 가운데 코로나19 신규 확진자는 2만7443명을 기록했다.
현재 코로나19 확진자들은 병원 입원, 생활치료센터 입소, 자가격리 등 3가지 경로를 통해 치료받고 있는데 모든 치료의 기본은 '격리된다'는 점이다.
중앙선거관리위원회에 따르면 직접 투표소를 방문하기 어려운 이들은 이달 9~13일 지방자치단체에 거소 투표를 신청하면 대선 투표일인 3월 9일 우편으로 투표할 수 있다.
선관위는 또한 사전투표 기간인 3월 4~5일 생활치료센터에 특별사전투표소를 설치해 확진자들이 투표할 수 있게끔 도울 예정이다.
하지만 3월 5일 이후 확진돼 입소한 확진자들은 투표 참여 방법이 없는 실정이다. 거소 투표 신청 기간이 지난 뒤 확진되는 경우에도 투표할 수 있는 마땅한 방법이 없다.
확진자뿐 아니라 밀접접촉자로 분류돼 자가격리에 들어가는 사람들 역시 투표권을 행사할 수 있을지 미지수다. 선관위는 비확진 자가격리자를 위해 본투표일인 3월 9일 오후 6시 이후 임시 기표소를 운영하겠다고 했으나 "재검표 신청과 무효표 소송 등 큰 논란이 될 수 있다"는 우려가 따라붙고 있다.
최근 오미크론 우세화로 인해 매일 수만명의 확진자가 발생하고 있다는 점을 감안한다면 투표권을 박탈당하는 국민은 수십만명에 달할 것이란 우려도 제기된다.
