세종시가 조치원 동서연결도로를 다음달 서둘러 개통하고 북세종IC에서 국회 세종의사당까지 이어지는 연결 도로 건설에 나기로 했다.
이춘희 세종시장은 10일 시청에서 정례 브리핑을 갖고 도심 도로망 및 광역 도로망 개설을 골자로 한 ‘세종시 도로교통 개선대책’을 발표했다.
대책에 따르면 먼저 출퇴근시 심한 정체가 빚어지고 있는 도심 교차로 5개소에 대해 신호체계와 차선표시 변경 등 구조 개선에 나선다.
도로 확장 등의 구조 변경이 필요한 5개 교차로에 대해선 사업 비용과 소요 기간 등을 검토해 단계적으로 추진하기로 했다.
도심 교통량 분산을 위해 폐쇄 예정인 국지도 96호선 3km 구간을 현재 도로 처럼 활용할 수 있도록 방안도 추진된다.
이 구간은 신도시의 동서를 가로 지르는 주요 간선축으로, 절재로와 함께 국회 세종의사당을 접근하는 중심도로의 역할을 하게 될 것으로 전망했다.
다만 이 도로로 인해 중앙공원(옛 장남평야)과 금강의 생태축 단절을 예상해 생태 연결 시설을 확충하는 등 환경 영향 대책도 마련된다.
늘어나는 교통량 분산을 위해 금강 횡단 교량 인근에 신규 교량 건설도 추진된다.
국회 세종의사당 접근성 용이를 위해 세종-청주고속도로 북세종IC에서 세종의사당으로 연결 노선도 확충한다.
확중되는 노선은 국도 1호선(3.8km)에서 외곽순환도로 6생활권 구간(2.5km),임난수로(3.7km)를 통과하는 총 10km 구간이다.
인접 연결도로에 비해 도로 폭이 좁은 임난수로를 왕복 4차로에서 6차로로 확장하는 방안도 강구중이다.
특히 대전-당진 고속도로 한솔동 구간에 나들목(하이패스 전용 (가칭)가람IC)을 설치하고, 가람IC에서 국지도 96호선을 통해 세종의사당을 연결하는 7km구간도 함께 정비된다.
시는 북세종IC와 가람IC에서 세종의사당을 연결하는 도로를 확충될 경우 세종시를 둘러싼 기존·신설 4개 고속도로에서 세종의사당까지 10분대에 진입이 가능해 접근성이 크게 향상될 것으로 내다봤다.
상대적으로 열악한 북부권의 도로망을 확충하기 위해 시도 25호선(국도43호선~국도1호선 11km)의 확장과 선형도 개선한다.
추진이 중단됐던 조치원 우회도로건설도 조치원 공공주택지구 개발(88만㎡, ‘29년 완료) 등의 여건 변화를 반영해 사업을 재추진한다.
