브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 안철수 국민의당 대선후보가 야권단일화를 공식 제안한 이후 국민의힘과 단일화 방식을 놓고 극명한 이견을 보이고 있다.
국민의당은 여론조사를 통해 국민에게 선택받은 후보로 단일화를 하자고 주장하는 반면, 국민의힘은 시간이 촉박하니 단일화 과정 속 소모적 논쟁을 벌이지 말고 통 큰 단일화, 즉 후보간 담판을 짓자고 주장하고 있다.
안철수 후보는 전날인 13일 중앙선관위에 대선후보 공식등록을 한 뒤 '여론조사 국민 경선' 방식으로 통한 야권단일화를 공식 제안했다.
국민의당측은 이 방식은 지난해 4·7 서울시장 보궐선거 당시 국민의힘측에서 제시한 단일화 방식이라며 이번에도 같은 방식을 적용하자고 주장했다.
안철후 후보는 현재 다수의 다자대결 여론조사에서 10% 내외의 지지율에 그친 상황이나, 자신이 야권후보로 단일화될 경우 이재명 더불어민주당 후보와 초접전 양상을 보이고 있다. 이 때문에 여론조사를 통한 단일화 방식을 거듭 주장하고 있는 상황이다.
반면 국민의힘 측에선 여권 지지자들의 '역선택' 가능성이 있다는 이유로 담판을 짓자고 요구하고 있다. 민주당측 지지자들이 여론조사에 개입해, 경쟁력이 없는 후보에게 몰표를 줄 수 있다는 것이다.
권영세 선거대책본부장은 이날 오전 국회에서 열린 선대본부 회의에서 야권단일화와 관련 "야권 단일화 과정에서 벌어질 소모적 논쟁이야 말로 민주당과 이재명 후보가 가장 바라는 시나리오일 수 있다"라며 "그 과정에서 어떤 훼방을 놓고 어떤 무도한 공작과 농간을 부릴지 상상하기도 힘들다"고 주장했다.
이어 그는 "지금은 통큰 단일화가 필요하다"며 "첫째도 정권교체, 둘째도 정권교체가 시대적 사명이자 국민의 명령이기 때문이다. 안 후보님이 정권교체를 이룰 가장 확실하고 바른 길이 무엇인지 헤아려주실 것을 부탁드린다"고 말했다.
그는 이날 기자들과 만나서도 "여론조사로 (단일화)하는 부분은 좋은 방법이 아닌 것 같다", "서울시장 보궐선거 때와 지금은 후보도 다르고 선거 종류도 다르다", "상황이 완전히 다르다"고 말하며 국민의당 제안을 부정적으로 바라봤다.
그러나 이태규 총괄선대본부장은 이날 CBS 라디오 '김현정의 뉴스쇼'에서 "자꾸 역선택을 이야기하는데, 역선택 방지 조항이 없는 게 국민의힘 방식이다. 그 방식에 의해 안 후보는 졌고, 윤석열 후보도 대선후보가 됐고, 이준석 대표도 당대표가 됐다. 자기들 방식대로 하자는데, 거기에 대해 다른 포구를 단다는 게 상식에 맞나"라고 반박했다.
