이들은 3일 오후7시(미국 동부시간 기준) 줌을 통해 132개 대학 총 202명의 교수와 연구원들의 서명을 받은 이재명 후보 지지 선언문을 발표했다.
이날 선언문을 낭독한 교수는 총 10명으로, 신수련 하버드대학교 교수, 김수현 아리조나대학교 교수, 유재혁 위스콘신대학교 교수, 이승헌 버지니아대학교 교수, 장혜정 클렘슨대학교 교수, 신숙 버지니아 공대 교수, 주형숙 볼링그린대학교 교수, 정광철 플로리다 대학교 교수, 이윤석 플로리다대학교 교수, 유영주 미시간대학교 교수 등이다.
이들은 선언문을 통해 "2022년 현재 대한민국은 기로에 서있다"면서 "드러난 문제들을 해결해 온전한 선진국으로 나아가 선진국 굳히기에 들어가느냐, 아니면 무능하고 부패한 반촛불세력에게 다시 나라를 맡겨 촛불 이전으로 돌아가느냐 하는 중대한 기로"라고 설명했다.

이들은 "윤석열 후보가 내세운 검찰공약, 즉 법무부장관의 수사지휘권 폐지와 검찰총장에게 검찰청의 예산편성권 부여는, 이를 통해 선출되지 않은 검찰조직의 민주적 통제를 없애려는 시도가 확연하다"며 "선택적 정의로 치장된 무소불위의 부패 검찰공화국의 도래가 우려된다. 이러한 과거회귀적 분열과 증오, 검찰의 선택적 수사를 통한 정치 보복을 공공연하게 공표하는 세력에게 대한민국의 미래를 맡길 수는 없다"고 주장했다.
이들은 또한 "대한민국은 미래를 위한 통합과 협치를 통해 온전한 선진국으로 나아가야 한다"면서 "이것이 우리가 이재명 후보를 지지하는 이유다. 이재명 정부는 촛불정부 2기, 민주정부 4기로서 미완의 촛불혁명을 완수하는데 힘찬 발걸음을 내딛을 것이라 믿는다"고 강조했다.
