충남 공주시가 김종서장군 유허지 및 김옥균선생 유허 정비에 나서기로 했다.
유허지란 역사적 기록만 있고 그 장소에 유물과 문화재가 없는 옛 지역이다.
시는 지난 4일 시청 집현실에서 충청남도 지정문화재인 김종서유허지(도 문화재자료 제394호)와 김옥균선생유허(도 기념물 제13호) 종합정비계획 최종보고회를 가졌다.
절재 김종서 선생과 고균 김옥균 선생 유적은 우리나라 역사에서 중요한 위치에 있는 인물로 그동안 유적 정비 필요성이 제기돼 왔다.
이에 따라 시는 2006년 정비기본계획을 바탕으로 인물의 역사적 평가 및 문화재 주변 여건 변화 등을 반영, 실질적인 문화재 정비 및 활용이 이뤄질 수 있도록 종합정비계획을 세웠다.
보고회에서는 역사 인물과 결부해 문화재의 가치를 재해석하고, 인공지능(AI)·증강현실(AR) 등 새로이 대두하는 기술 도입을 적극 검토했다.
또, 문화재와 더불어 살아가는 주민의 의견을 수렴, 사안의 시급성과 해결의 용이성을 기준으로 사업을 구분해 10년 계획으로 단기·중기·장기 3단계로 나눠 추진할 것으로 알려졌다.
김종서 유허지는 ▲보존상태 개선 및 편의시설 도입 ▲공동체 문화공간 조성 ▲전시관, 역사인물 공원 등 역사문화 명소화 등 단계별로 진행한다.

시는 이번 종합정비사업에는 각 40억 원씩 소요될 보고 충남도에 예산 반영을 적극 요청할 계획이다.
조병철 문화재과장은 “선생들의 생애와 밀접한 문화재를 연차적으로 정비하고 활용할 계획”이라며, “지역의 역사 인물을 선양하고 문화재를 향유 함에 있어 편익을 도모할 수 있도록 방안을 구체화해 시행토록 할 예정이다”고 말했다.
