국가철도공단, 조치원 동서연결도로 개통

세종시 조치원읍 동부지역와 서부지역을 연결하는 동서연결도로가 11일 개통됐다.

국가철도공단 충청본부는 이날 세종시 조치원 동서연결도로 개통식을 갖고 운행에 들어갔다.

그동안 조치원읍 동부와 서부는 경부선 철도 통과로 단절돼 있고 철도와 도로가 교차하는 입체시설 부족과 철도를 횡단하는 지하차도가 1개만 있어 교통약자들이 장거리를 우회하는 등 이동에 불편을 초래했다.

이에, 충청본부는 지난 2017년 세종시와 협약을 체결하고 같은해 12월 사업비 298억원을 투입해 폭 21m, 연장 270m의 4차선 규모로 공사를 마무리했다.

이날 개통으로 공단은  동·서부 지역 교통흐름 개선과 지역 간 불균형 해소 등 주민 화합에 기여할 것으로 전망했다.

김용두 충청본부장은 “조치원읍 동서연결도로 개통으로 지역 주민, 특히 교통약자들의 교통 편의가 크게 개선될 것으로 기대한다.”며, “앞으로도 철도횡단시설 확충을 통해 안전사고를 예방하고 주민 불편사항 개선을 위해 최선을 다 하겠다.”고 말했다.
