오는 6월 대전시장 선거 출마에 나서는 더불어민주당 장종태 대전시장 예비후보는 29일 ‘베이스볼 드림파크’ 조성과 관련해 입장문을 내고 새 야구장 건립에 반대한 적 없다"고 밝혔다.
장종태 예비후보는 " 대안 없는 한밭운동장 철거를 반대하는 것이지 야구장 건립에 반대하는 것은 아니라"며 이 같이 말했다.
또 "허태정 시장이 공약한 ‘베이스볼 드림파크 조성'은 반드시 지켜져야 하고, 연구용역을 통해 결정된 현재 위치에 지어져야 한다."고 주장했다.
그는 "단, 인근 시설을 활용해 대전 유일의 ‘종합운동장’을 살릴 수 있다면 그렇게 해야한다"라고 설명했다.
이어 ‘뒤늦은 반대가 아니냐’는 지적에 대해서도 "당시 서구청장 시절 대전시를 믿고 기다렸다"면서 "최근 대전시가 내놓은 한밭운동장을 철거하면서 충남대·대전대 운동장을 리모델링해 활용하겠다는 계획은 근본적인 대안이 될 수 없다"고 비판했다.
특히 "대안을 마련하고 철거를 하는 것이 올바른 행정"이라면서 "각종 피해가 예상되었기에 대전시장 예비후보로서 반대를 한 것"이라고 강조했다.

"The plan to remodel and utilize the stadiums of Chungnam National University and Daejeon University while demolishing the Hanbat Stadium recently introduced by Daejeon cannot be a fundamental alternative." he criticized
In particular, he emphasized, "It is the right administration to come up with an alternative and to demolish it," and emphasized that "I opposed it as a preliminary candidate for the mayor of Daejeon because various damages were expected."
