브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 장제원 당선인 비서실장은 18일 정호영 보건복지부 장관 후보자의 자녀 의대 편입 과정 논란에 대해 "조국, 조국 그러는데 진짜 조국 문제하고 이거하고 비슷한 게 있으면 얘기를 해보라. 뭐 조작을 했나 위조를 했나"라고 반박했다.
장제원 비서실장은 이날 오전 출근길에 기자들과 만나 "정호영 후보자를 둘러싼 의혹이 조국 전 법무장관을 연상시킨다"는 질문에 "적어도 입시 문제랑 병역 문제에 있어서 팩트가 밝혀진 게 있으면 이야기를 해달라"며 이같이 밝혔다.
그는 "지금 보면 (의혹들) 전부 다 기자들이 얘기하는 게 프레임이다. 부정의 팩트가 뭐가 있나"라고 강조했다.
윤석열 당선인과 '40년 지기'인 정호영 후보자가 논란을 겪고 있는데 대한 당선인 반응이 있는지 물어보자 "당선인은 지켜볼 뿐"이라며 "논란이 있지만 국민과 언론이 검증을 하는 과정(이라 생각하신다)"이라고 했다.
그러면서 "우리 비서실에서도 모든 기사를 보고 당선인에게 보고해야 할 것 아닌가. 비서실을 포함해 많은 분으로부터 여론 동향을 체크하고 계시다"라고 덧붙였다.
그는 또 "정호영 후보자 본인이 문제가 없다고 기자회견을 했고, 교육부 감사를 받고 문제가 있다면 책임지겠다고 했다"면서 "병역 문제도 국회가 다시 지정하면 거기서 신체검사를 받겠다고 한다. 여기서 그럼 뭘 더 해야 하느냐"고 반문하기도 했다.
한편 정호영 후보자는 전날 기자회견을 통해 두 자녀의 경북대 의대 편입학 특혜 의혹, 아들의 병역 회피 의혹 등에 대해 반박했다.
