브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미국 백악관은 조 바이든 대통령의 오는 방한과 관련, 안보 약속을 재확인하는 한편 북한 문제도 논의한다고 밝혔다.
젠 사키 백악관 대변인은 5일(현지시간) 정례브리핑을 통해 "북한의 계속되는 역내 불안정한 행동을 고려해 바이든 대통령은 한국과 일본의 안보에 대한 우리의 약속을 명확히 할 것"이라며 "우리의 확장 억지 약속은 철통 같다는 것을 포함해 더 큰 약속을 할 것"이라고 강조했다.
그는 한미정상회담 의제와 관련 "양 정상들은 안보동맹 심화를 비롯해 경제 관계 강화, 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 대응을 비롯한 공동의 도전 과제에 대해 논의할 것"이라며 "북한 문제가 의제가 될 것이라는 점은 의심의 여지가 없다"고 했다.
그는 최근 북한이 대륙간 탄도 미사일(ICBM) 발사를 비롯해 한반도 안보 정세를 불안정하게 만드는 행위를 하고 있는 것을 언급하며 "그런 차원에서 북한 문제는 분명히 토론의 일부가 될 것"이라며 "러시아의 침공을 받고 있는 우크라이나를 지원하기 위한 공동의 노력에 대해서도 논의가 될 것"이라고 설명했다.
그는 또한 북한이 바이든 대통령 방한을 앞두고 추가 도발이나 핵실험을 벌일 가능성에 대해선 "우리는 대통령 순방시 언제나 안보 진단을 한다"면서 "순방과 관련해 그것은(미사일 발사 및 핵실험은) 우려 사항이 아니다"라고 했다.
