브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 이랜드가 파주 헤이리 예술마을에 문화예술재생 콘셉트의 갤러리를 오픈하고 미술 시장에 본격 진출한다.
이랜드는 다음 달 그랜드 오픈을 앞둔 ‘이랜드 헤이리 갤러리’의 1층 330㎡ 규모의 화이트큐브 전시관을 프리 오픈하고 첫 전시로 ‘지히 작가’전을 진행한다고 23일 밝혔다. 지하 1층에 위치한 990㎡ 규모의 제2전시실은 내달 중순 오픈한다.
이랜드가 갤러리 오픈을 하게 된 것은 18년간 이어온 신진작가 지원 사업과 깊은 관련이 있다. 중국 내 상위 5대 미술대학에 장학금을 제공했는데 수혜 인원만 3000여 명에 달한다. 그중 엄선한 작품 500여 점을 갤러리에 선보일 계획이다.
국내에서는 2009년부터 현재까지 전도유망한 청년 예술가 육성을 위해 매년 40세 이하 청년작가 공모전을 진행하고 있다. 매년 작가를 선발해 창작 지원금을 후원하고 창작 활동 결과물을 선보이는 전시회를 개최한다.
올해로 12기를 선발했으며 총 95명이 창작 지원금과 전시 기회를 제공받았다. 갤러리 첫 전시를 맡게 된 ‘지히 작가’ 역시 이랜드 문화 재단 공모 10기 출신의 작가로 조형언어의 팝아트 작품을 선보이고 있다.
이랜드 관계자는 “이번 갤러리 개관은 훌륭한 작품 세계를 갖춘 청년 작가들의 작품을 발굴하는 것에서 더 나아가 대중과의 접점을 늘리는데 그 의의가 있다”며 “재능 있는 젊은 예술가들이 자신의 역량을 마음껏 펼쳐 국내외 미술계를 이끌어가는 멋진 작가로 성장하도록 지원을 아끼지 않을 것이다”고 말했다.
