브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 6·1 지방선거에서 여당인 국민의힘이 광역단체장 12곳에서 당선되며 압승하는 결과가 나왔다. 더불어민주당은 5곳에 그치며 참패가 확정됐다.
윤석열 정부로 정권교체 된지 3개월여만에 치러진 선거인 만큼, 새 정부 컨벤션 효과가 톡톡히 작용했다는 분석이다. 이에 따라 윤석열 정부가 예고한 규제 개혁과 각종 정책에 드라이브를 걸며 국정운영에 탄력을 받을 전망이다.
반면 민주당은 4년 전 지방선거에서 14곳을 석권했던 것과 정반대로 기록적 참패를 기록하며 입지가 좁아진 것은 물론 선거 패배 책임과 당 내 주도권 싸움 등 후폭풍이 불가피할 전망이다.
중앙선거관리위원회에 따르면 2일 국민의힘은 총 17개 광역단체장 선거에서 기존 텃밭으로 불린 경상도뿐 아니라 서울 인천, 충청, 강원까지 가져가며 총 12곳에서 승리했다.
전날 발표된 방송3사 출구조사에서 경합지역으로 분류된 대전시장, 세종시장, 경기지사 3곳 중 경기도만 제외하고 모두 국민의힘 후보가 승기를 거머쥐었다.
경기지사의 경우, 개표율 100% 기준 김동연 민주당 후보가 49.06%, 김은혜 후보가 48.91%로 석패했다.
민주당은 경기지사를 비롯해 당세가 우세한 전라북도, 전라남도, 광주시장 3곳과 제주도지사 1곳에서만 승리를 가져갔다.
국회의원 보궐 선거의 경우에도 사정은 비슷하다. 국민의힘은 지역구 5곳에서 승리했고, 민주당은 2곳에 그쳤다.
민주당은 이재명 총괄선대위원장이 출마한 인천 계양을과 제주 제주시을에 출마한 김한규 후보만 우승하고 돌아왔다.
국민의힘에선 경기 성남 분당갑 안철수, 강원 원주갑 박정하, 충남 보령-서천 장동혁, 대구 수성을 이인선, 경남 창원 의창 김영선 후보가 당선됐다.
