파주시는 7월부터 공공와이파이(무선인터넷) 서비스 확대에 나선다고 밝혔다.
시는 시민들의 모바일 접근성 향상을 위해 올해 3월부터 약 1억8,300만원의 예산을 투입해 공공와이파이장비 50대를 추가로 설치했다.
이번에 구축된 공공와이파이는 심학산, 야당역 주변, 광탄도서관, 금릉공원, 율곡수목원 등 50개소로, 특히, 운정신도시 옆, 시민들이 건강과 휴식을 위해 찾는 심학산 정상에도 와이파이를 설치해 시민들에게 안전하고 즐거운 시간이 선사되길 기대하고 있다.

무료 공공와이파이를 이용하려면 스마트폰 설정에서 와이파이 기능을 켜고 ‘Paju_Free-WiFi’를 선택하면 비밀번호 입력 없이 자동으로 연결된다.

아울러, 시는 올해 1월 한국지능정보사회진흥원(NIA) 공모사업에 선정되어 구축 장소 14개소를 확보해 하반기에도 추가로 설치할 예정이다.
이치선 정보통신과장은 “시민들의 일상 공간, 즐겨 찾는 휴식공간 등 시민 생활의 깊숙한 곳에 공공와이파이를 촘촘히 구축하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 파주시는 현재 버스정류장 173개소, 공공청사 107개소, 공원 68개소 등 총 451개소에서 와이파이를 운영하고 있으며, 시민들이 편리하게 확인할 수 있도록 공공와이파이 홍보 스티커를 부착해 알리고 있다. 파주=박정호기자
