브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= '성 상납 증거인멸교사' 의혹으로 당원권이 6개월 정지된 이준석 국민의힘 대표는 8일 당 중앙윤리위원회 결정을 받아들일 수 없다면서 어떤 방식으로든 이의를 제기할 것으로 보인다.
이준석 대표는 이날 오전 KBS라디오 '최경영의 최강시사'에서 "지금 수사 절차가 시작되지도 않은 상황 속에서 6개월 당원권 정지라는 중징계가 내려졌다"며 이같은 뜻을 밝혔다.
그는 "지금까지 정치권에서 통용되던 관례는 수사기관이나 재판 중인 사안에 대해서는 그것에 대한 결과에 따라서 윤리위원회가 처분을 내리는 것이 관례였다"면서 "대법원 판결까지 받아서 지금 아직까지 윤리위 처분이 늦춰지고 있는 경우가 굉장히 많았다"고 강조했다.
실제로 KT 채용 부정 청탁한 김성태 전 의원과 강원랜드 부정 채용한 염동열 전 의원은 형이 확정됐음에도 윤리위 처분은 늦어지고 있다.
이준석 대표는 향후 대응 방안에 대해선 "윤리위 규정을 보면 윤리위 징계 결과에 징계 처분권이라고 하는 것은 당 대표에게 있다"면서 "저는 납득할 만한 그런 어떤 상황이 아닌 경우에는 징계 처분을 보류할 생각이다"라고 말했다.
당 대표에게 주어진 징계처분권을 통해 자신 스스로에 대한 징계를 보류, 대표직을 이어갈 수 있다는 것이다.
이준석 대표는 "아까 말했던 것처럼 징계처분권 자체가 당대표에게 있기 때문에 제가 봤을 때 처분이라는 게 납득 가능한 시기가 되면 그건 당연히 그렇게 받아들이겠지만 지금 상황에서는 가처분이라든지 재심이라든지 이런 상황들을 판단해서 어떤 조치들을 하겠다"고 말했다.
그는 또한 자진사퇴 여부를 묻는 질문엔 "저는 그럴 생각이 없다"고 선을 그었고 '당원권 정지가 최종 확정될 때까지 최고위원회를 주재할 것이냐'는 질문에 " 최고위는 다음 주 월요일에 열게 돼 있으니 주말 간에 판단해 봐야한다"고 답했다.
한편 국민의힘 중앙윤리위원회는 8일 새벽 품위유지 위반을 이유로 이준석 대표에 대한 당원권 6개월 정지를 의결했다. 이양희 당 윤리위원장은 전날 오후 7시부터 이날 오전 2시 45분까지 회의를 진행한 뒤 기자들과 만나 "이 대표에 대한 당원권 정지 6개월을 의결했다. 이준석 국민의힘 당 대표 이하 당원은 윤리규칙 4조 1항에 따라 당원으로서 예의를 지키고 자리에 맞게 행동해야 하며 당의 명예를 실추시키거나 국민 정서와 동떨어진 언행을 해서는 안 된다는 것에 근거했다"고 밝혔다.
이 대표는 이에 따라 반년 동안 직무 수행이 불가능해지면서 대표직 유지 여부도 불투명한 상황에 몰려있다.
