국가철도공단은 2027년 춘천∼속초 동서고속화철도 개통에 대비해 춘천역세권의 체계적인 개발계획 수립을 위한 기본구상 및 타당성 검토 용역을 착수한다고 19일 밝혔다.
용역의 내용은 ▲ 철도역 중심의 도시공간구조 형성을 위한 개발방향 및 규모설정 ▲ 철도와 타 교통수단 연계를 위한 환승센터 계획 등이다. 이를 위해 공단은 강원대학교 산학협력단과 ㈜유신을 우선협상대상자로 선정했다.
춘천역세권 개발사업은 춘천역 철도 부지와 주변 지역을 포함한 약 69만㎡를 대상으로 ‘역세권의 개발 및 이용에 관한 법률’에 따라 공단과 강원도, 춘천시가 참여하는 공영개발로 추진할 예정이다.
김한영 이사장은 “향후 공단은 철도역을 중심으로 주거, 업무, 상업, 문화 등 다양한 시설이 집약된 컴팩트시티를 구축해 지역경제 활성화에 기여할 것이며, 춘천역세권 개발을 시작으로 신규철도 건설에 따른 역세권 개발을 지속 확대할 예정이다.”고 말했다.
한편, 춘천∼속초 동서고속화철도는 춘천에서 속초 간 93.7㎞를 연결하는 사업으로 2027년 개통을 목표로 추진 중이다.
