[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시 수산자원연구소가 낙동강 하구의 생태계 보전과 어업인 소득 증대를 위해 자체 생산한 톱날꽃게 치게 2만 마리를 방류하며 수산자원 회복에 나섰다.
수산자원연구소는 21일 오전 10시 30분, 낙동강하구에코센터 및 한국수자원공사 부산권지사와 함께 을숙도 메모리얼파크 카약선착장에서 톱날꽃게 치게 방류 행사를 진행했다. 이번 행사는 낙동강하구에코센터의 체험 교육과 연계하여 수산자원 보전의 중요성을 알리는 홍보 활동을 병행했다.
방류된 톱날꽃게는 연구소가 올해 3월부터 어미 개체로부터 수정란을 확보해 부화시킨 후, 최적의 환경에서 사육한 갑폭 10mm 내외의 건강한 개체들이다. 방류지인 낙동강 하구는 갯벌과 수초 군락이 발달해 있어 어린 게들이 생존하고 성장하기에 가장 적합한 환경으로 평가받는다.
톱날꽃게는 남해안과 서해안에 주로 서식하는 고소득 어종이나, 최근 연안 개발과 남획 등으로 인해 자원량이 급감하고 있다. 이에 연구소는 인공종자 방류를 통한 자원 회복 노력이 시급하다고 판단하여 이번 방류를 결정했다.
연구소는 매년 10여 종의 수산종자를 생산해 부산 연안에 방류하고 있으며, 앞으로도 넙치, 감성돔, 보리새우 등 다양한 우량 종자를 지속적으로 공급할 계획이다.
김준태 수산자원연구소장은 이번 방류를 통해 어업인 소득 증대는 물론 시민들이 건강한 바다를 누릴 수 있도록 수산자원 회복에 최선을 다하겠다고 밝혔다.

On April 21, the Busan Fisheries Resources Research Institute held a joint release event at the Eulsukdo Memorial Park Kayak Dock in collaboration with the Nakdong Estuary Eco Center and the Korea Water Resources Corporation. This initiative was integrated with the Eco Centers educational programs to raise public awareness about the importance of conserving marine life.
The released crabs were healthy seedlings with a shell width of approximately 10mm. The institute secured eggs from broodstock in March and raised them under optimal water temperatures and feeding conditions to maximize their survival rate in the wild. The Nakdong River estuary was selected as the release site because its nutrient-rich mudflats and seagrass beds provide the ideal habitat for young crabs to hide and grow.
Sawtooth blue crabs are highly valued in the South and West Seas of Korea for their rich flavor and firm texture. However, their population has been steadily declining due to coastal development, pollution, and overfishing. The institute emphasized that artificial seedling releases are now essential to prevent the depletion of this commercially important species.
The Busan Fisheries Resources Research Institute produces and releases millions of seedlings of about 10 different species every year to support the fishing industry. Following this event, the institute plans to continue releasing high-quality seedlings, including olive flounder, black sea bream, and kuruma prawn, to ensure a healthy and sustainable marine environment for both fishermen and citizens.
