고양시는 AI 기반 영어 학습 시스템 사업에 필요한 노트북 30대를 관내 17개 지역아동센터에 무료 보급했다고 29일 전했다.
고양시는 과학기술정보통신부 산하 정보통신산업진흥원이 주관하는 ‘2022년 지역선도기업사업화지원’ 공모사업에 선정되어 관내 지역아동센터에 ‘AI 영어도서 큐레이션 서비스’ 무료 보급을 추진하고 있다.
현재 17개 지역아동센터가 AI 영어도서 큐레이션 서비스에 참여하고 있다.
그런데 지역아동센터가 노트북이 부족해 교육 진행이 어려움을 호소하는 상황이 발생했다.
이에 고양시는 찾아가는복지과와 협력해 기부적립금으로 노트북을 지원하기로 결정했다.

고양시가 노트북 25세트를 구입하고 관내 소프트웨어 기업이자 AI 영어도서 큐레이션 서비스 개발업체인 ㈜참빛교육에서 5대를 추가 지원하여 총 노트북 30대, 마우스 30개, 노트북 가방 25개를 고양시 지역아동센터협회에 지원한 것이다.
지역아동센터 관계자는 “많은 아이들이 AI 영어 학습에 참여하고 싶어 했지만 센터 사정상 컴퓨터가 부족해 교육 진행에 어려움이 많았다. 이렇게 고양시가 적극적으로 노트북을 전달해줘 아이들 교육에 큰 도움이 됐다”고 전했다.
시 관계자는 “앞으로도 관내 취약계층 아동이 영어 학습에 흥미를 가질 수 있도록 지원하고 지속되는 코로나19 상황에도 4차 산업혁명 기술을 통해 학습 격차를 해소하여 누구에게나 배움의 기회가 동등하게 돌아갈 수 있도록 할 것”이라고 말했다. 고양=박정호기자
