고양시가 코로나19로 침체되었던 마이스 산업의 활력을 되찾고 지속가능한 마이스 산업을 육성하기 위해 지난 27일 ‘고양특례시 마이스 산업 활성화 토론회’를 개최했다.
마이스(MICE)는 기업 회의, 포상 관광, 국제 회의, 전시 박람회와 이벤트의 영문 약자로 대규모 관광객을 유치하여 지역경제를 활성화 하는 고부가가치 산업을 말한다.

이날 토론회는 고양시정연구원 김은진 부연구위원의 ‘고양 국제회의복합지구 활성화 방안’과 한국무역전시학회 김봉석 회장의 ‘킨텍스의역할과 과제’라는 두 가지 주제로 진행됐다.
김은진 부연구위원은 고양 국제회의복합지구 현황과 문제점을 분석하며 “마이스 도시로서의 경쟁력 강화하기 위해 복합지구 내 민관협력 파트너십 강화, 관광특구와의 연계, 타 국제회의복합지구와의 차별성”을 가져야 한다고 제안했다.
김봉석 회장은 “킨텍스는 전시컨벤션센터로서 지속가능한 마이스 발전을 이루기 위해 전시산업의 환경변화에 대비해야 한다”고 강조하며 그 방안으로 “문화콘텐츠 기업과의 협력 확대, 글로벌 대형 전시회 유치, 킨텍스 리브랜딩”을 제시했다.
시 관계자는 “고양특례시 마이스 산업 발전 방안을 모색하기 위해 마련된 토론회인 만큼 오늘 나온 의견을 수렴해 정책을 추진할 예정”이라며, “킨텍스 등의 뛰어난 인프라를 갖춰 마이스 산업 종주도시로 자리매김한 고양시가 한층 도약할 수 있도록 힘쓸 것”이라고 덧붙였다. 고양=박정호기자
