충남도의회 복지환경위원회(위원장 김응규)는 11일 의료 취약 지역인 도서·벽지 주민들을 위해 종합적인 의료서비스를 제공하는 병원선 충남501호를 방문해 운영 상황 등을 점검하고, 원산도 초전마을 진료 현장을 참관하며 주민들의 불편 사항 등을 살폈다.
이번에 방문한 병원선 충남501호는 지난 2001년 2월 건조된 160톤급 병원선으로, 20년간 ‘바다 위의 종합병원’으로 불리며 섬 주민들의 건강지킴이 역할을 수행해 오고 있다.
병원선 충남501호는 팀장 1명과 공중보건의 3명, 간호사 3명, 방사선사 1명, 임상병리사 1명 등 의료 분야 9명과 선박 분야 8명, 기간제 1명 등 총 18명이 승선해 있다.
보령시 등 6개 시·군과 원산도 등 31개 도서 주민 3545명을 대상으로 건강 증진 및 보건 향상을 위해 매월 정기적으로 순회 운항하며 의료서비스를 제공한다.
현재 충남도는 약 126억 원을 들여 2022년 말 준공을 목표로 331톤급 병원선을 건조 중에 있으며, 2023년 1월부터 새로운 병원선으로 도서·벽지 지역 진료 업무를 수행해 나갈 계획이다.
이날 복환위 위원들은 병원선 운영 현황 및 운영 방향 등에 대한 설명을 듣고, 원산도 초전마을에서 이뤄진 진료 현장을 찾아 도서 주민들의 의료서비스 개선 건의 사항을 듣고 문제점을 살폈다.
김응규 위원장(아산2·국민의힘)은 “의료서비스 접근성이 낮은 도서 지역 주민에게 병원선 충남501호의 역할은 매우 중요하다”며 “도서·벽지 지역에 대한 적극적인 의료지원으로 주민의 불편함이 없도록 하고, 의료서비스 사각지대를 해소하기 위해 의회 차원에서 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
