2022년 하반기 접경지역 시장·군수 협의회(이하 협의회) 정기회의가 26일 파주시 LG디스플레이 LCD 산업단지 게스트하우스에서 개최됐다.
이날 협의회에는 파주시를 비롯한 경기도, 강원도, 인천시 접경지역 10개 시·군 단체장들이 참석했다.

정기회의에서는 ‘접경지역·DMZ 특별연합 구성을 위한 기본계획 수립 및 법제도 정비’ 등 4건에 대한 용역 보고와 ‘국방부 소유 군부대 이전 유휴부지 양여’ 등 각 시군에서 제안한 안건 협의 및 제11기 협의회장단 선출을 실시했다.
접경지역·DMZ 특별연합 구성 및 탄소중립 추진전략 수립, 접경권 발전지원사업 발굴을 위한 용역 중간 보고가 이뤄졌고, 올해 하반기 ‘2022년 접경지역·DMZ 인문학 포럼 개최’를 위한 용역을 착수했다.
국방부 소유 군부대 이전 유휴부지 양여, 민통선 규제 해소, 군사시설 보호구역 합리적 조정, 평화안보 관광자원 활성화 등 시군별 제안사항에 대한 논의도 이뤄졌다.
김경일 파주시장은 환영사를 통해 “50만 자족도시로 발전한 파주시가 접경지역의 좋은 모델”이라며, “그동안 접경지역 특수성으로 많은 제약과 희생을 강요받았으나, 어려움을 딛고 새로운 도약을 할 수 있도록 서로 협력하자”고 말했다.

협의회는 접경지역 상생발전과 광역행정의 효율적 추진을 위해 2008년에 설립돼 매년 상·하반기 정기회의를 개최하고 상호 발전방안을 협의해 왔으며, 제11기 협의회장으로는 인천광역시 옹진군 문경복 군수가 선출돼 2년간 협의회를 이끌게 된다. [파주=박정호기자]
