브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 권성동 국민의힘 원내대표는 8일 원내대표직 사퇴를 선언했다.
권성동 원내대표는 이날 오후 국회에서 기자회견을 열고 "사퇴의 뜻을 굳힌 지 오래됐지만 이제서야 뜻을 밝힐 수밖에 없었다. 당헌·당규 개정과 새로운 비대위 전환을 위해 원내대표로서 해야 할 일이 있었기 때문이다"라고 밝혔다.
그는 "당은 신임 원내대표 선출을 위한 절차를 신속하게 진행해주시길 바란다"며 "사퇴가 너무 늦었다는 비판 역시 겸허하게 받아들이겠다"고 했다.
특히 그는 "저는 자리에 연연하지 않았다"며 "국가 정상화와 윤석열 정부의 성공이 언제나 저의 거취보다 우선이었다. 대선 과정에서 이미 내각에 참여하지 않겠다 약속했고 대선 캠프 쇄신을 위해 사무총장직도 내려놓았다. 대선 승리 이후 인수위에도 참여하지 않았다"고 강조했다.
