전시회를 여는 학생들은 “올해는 계묘년으로 토끼의 해다. 흔히 토기를 연약한 동물로 여기지만 민화의 세계에서는 그렇지 않다. 토끼는 백수의 왕 범에게도 전혀 꿀리지 않는 당당한 존재이다. ’담뱃대 문 범‘ 의 민화에서 토끼는 대담하게 담뱃대를 문 범에게 불을 붙혀 주고 , 다른 토끼 한 마리는 그 장면을 범과 같은 동등한 자세를 취하고 바라보고 있다.”고 소개하고 “호암 미술관 소장품 민화에서는 얼룩 토끼가 범에게 대들고 있다. 판소리 <수궁가>에서는 토끼가 자라의 꾐에 빠져 용궁으로 가서 병든 용왕의 약으로 간을 빼앗길 위기에 처했지만, 지혜를 발휘하여 위기를 모면하는 영민한 동물로 나온다. 그러나 토끼라 하면 뭐니 뭐니 해도 점프력이 장점이다. 그런데 뒷다리가 길어서 내리막길은 구르기 일쑤”라고 설명했다.

명지대학 미래교육원 문화콘텐츠과 이미형 교수는 “이러한 토끼에 착안하여 계묘년 첯 달에 전시를 개최하게 되었다”고 말했다. 이 교수는 “올 한 해 우리나라의 경제가 어렵다고 한다. 그렇다고 내리막길로 구를 수는 없는 일이다. 토끼처럼 오르막길을 점프해야 한다. 많은 분들이 이번 전시에 오셔서 민화 토끼로 힐링하고, 토끼처럼 힘차게 도약 했으면 좋겠다.”고 피력했다.

“Gye-myo-nyeon, descendents of Shin Saimdang, leap (jump) like rabbits!”

Myongji University Future Education Center Cultural Contents Department (Head Professor Lee Mi-hyung) The 2nd Cultural Contents Department Minhwa Exhibition is held. The period is from January 23rd to January 29th. The exhibition venue is Bukchon Hanok Office, 29-1 Bukchon-ro 12-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Students opening the exhibition said, “This year is the year of the rabbit. Earthenware is often regarded as a fragile animal, but this is not the case in the world of folk paintings. The rabbit is a confident being that is not at all inferior to the king of beasts, the tiger. In the folktale of 'Cigarette Pipe Moon Bum', a rabbit boldly lights a cigarette pipe to Mun Bum, and another rabbit is looking at the scene in the same posture as the tiger." A spotted rabbit is fighting a tiger. In the pansori <Sugungga>, a rabbit is enticed by a turtle and goes to the dragon palace, where he is in danger of having his liver taken away by the sick dragon king's medicine. However, when it comes to rabbits, jumping is their strong point. However, because the hind legs are long, it is easy to roll downhill.”
Lee Mi-hyeong, a professor at the university, said, "I was interested in these rabbits and held an exhibition on the first month of the year of the cat." Professor Lee said, “The economy in Korea is difficult this year. However, it is not possible to roll downhill. You have to jump uphill like a rabbit. I hope that many people will come to this exhibition to heal with the minhwa rabbit and take a leap like a rabbit.”
