세종자치경찰위원회 사무국이 16일 공식 출범했다.
이날 세종자치경찰위원회는 이날 소담동 세종경찰청 건물 4층 위원회 사무실에서 사무국 출범식과 현판식을 갖고 시민 맞춤형 치안서비스 제공에 들어갔다.
출범식에는 최민호 세종시장을 비롯한 손장목 세종경찰청장, 행안부 자치경찰지원과장, 세종시의원, 녹색어머니회, 새마을회 대표, 시민 등 40여 명이 참석했다.
출범식은 ▲축하인사 ▲떡케이크 커팅 ▲기념촬영(피켓 퍼포먼스) 순으로 진행됐다.
세종시는 전국 17개 시도 중 유일하게 사무국을 설치 없이 2021년 7월 1일 세종자치경찰위원회를 출범시켰다.
하지만 경찰법 제36조 세종시 특례에 따라 위원 전원이 비상임이고 사무기구 없이 세종경찰청에서 위원회 사무를 추진하면서 운영에 어려움을 겪어왔다.
이후 세종시민들의 지속적인 사무국 설치 요구와 자치경찰위원회의 안정적인 운영에 대한 필요성이 제기돼 지난해 10월 사무국 설치 근거를 마련하는 경찰법이 국회 본회의를 통과하면서 세종자치경찰위원회 사무국 신설과 위원 상임화가 가능해졌다.
세종자치경찰위원회 사무국은 3팀 15명으로 세종시, 경찰청, 교육청 공무원으로 구성됐다. 위원장과 사무국장은 상임위원으로 지방공무원(정무직)으로, 그 외 위원 5명은 비상임위원으로 활동하게 된다.
