[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 의령군은 국도 20호선(의령~정곡) 4차로 확장사업이 2023년 국비 예산에 확보되면서 사업추진에 속도를 내기 시작했다고 21일 밝혔다.
군에 따르면 2021년 제5차 국도·국지도 건설계획(2021~2025)에 반영되었던 국도 20호선(의령~정곡) 9.3km 구간 4차로 확장사업의 기본 및 실시설계비 34억 원이 2023년 국토교통부 예산에 반영되었다고 했다.
군은 올해 3월 중 기본 및 실시설계에 착수해 2025년 7월 중으로 용역이 완료될 것으로 보고, 971억 원의 사업비를 들여 2029년 개통을 목표로 하고 있다.
국도 20호선 의령~정곡 구간은 최초 1999년 4차로 신설이 결정되었으나 2차 계획에서 제외되고 이후 계획이 수정되면서 20년의 세월이 걸려 4차로 확장사업이 확정된 구간으로 의령군민의 최대 숙원사업이었다.

의령군은 한 걸음 더 나아가 국도 20호선의 나머지 구간인 정곡에서 부림까지의 약 15km도 국도계획에 반영해 4차선 도로 확장을 추진하고, 지난 14일 박완수 도지사 의령 방문에서 첫 번째 건의 사항으로 올렸다.
국도 20호선은 의령 북쪽을 달리는 함양울산 고속도로, 남쪽을 받치는 남해고속도로를 직선으로 잇는 최단 연결노선으로 경남의 물류·교통·관광에 있어 새로운 지도를 그릴 수 있는 중요한 위치다.
오태완 군수는 “이제는 착공까지 속도를 붙이겠다”며 “의령 미래 50년의 새로운 지도를 그리는 만큼 한땀 한땀 정성을 쏟아 국도 20호선을 군민들께 내놓겠다”고 말했다.
