[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 함안군이 지방도 1021호선 배롱나무 가로수 구간 보식 사업에 착수했다고 24일 밝혔다.
이번 보식 사업지는 가야권역과 삼칠권역을 잇는 주요 가로수 구간으로 2,200만원의 예산을 투입해 기존 5km 배롱나무 가로수길을 정비한다.
군은 지난 가뭄으로 고사한 가로수 및 생육불량목 재정비 차원에서 배롱나무 40주를 추가 식재해 단절된 가로수 구간을 잇는 한편 수형조절을 위한 전정 작업을 병행 할 계획이다.
군 관계자는 “배롱나무꽃이 우리군의 군화인 만큼 기존 가야권역과 삼칠권역을 잇는 이 구간의 배롱나무 가로수길 유지·관리에 힘써 배롱나무 가로수 특화구간이 되도록 할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
한편, 배롱나무꽃은 1982년 지정된 함안군의 군화로 한번 꽃이 피면 백일가량 피어 있어 백일홍나무라고도 한다.
번식력이 강해 옛 선조들의 절개의 상징으로 숭상했다.
