브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 중국의 대만 침공이 현실화되면 어떤 결과가 발생할까.
오는 2026년 중국이 대만을 침공한다는 가정을 세우고 시뮬레이션을 돌려보니, 중국이 침공 2주만에 패배할 것이라는 결과가 나왔다.
하지만 중국을 저지하기 위해 참전한 미군과 일본 자위대도 막대한 피해를 입는 것으로 나타났다.
24일 니혼게이자이신문은 일본 싱크탱크인 사사카와(笹川)평화재단이 지난달 실시한 '대만해협 위기에 관한 시뮬레이션' 결과를 보도했다.
이 시뮬레이션에는 일본과 미국의 학자, 연구자와 전직 자위관 등 30여 명이 참여했다.
시뮬레이션은 2026년 중국군이 대만에 상륙을 시도하는 것으로 상정했으며 미국, 대만, 중국, 일본이 참전하는 것으로 설정했다.

시뮬레이션이 시작되자 중국은 '대만전 사령부'를 설치한 뒤 가용 가능한 항공전력과 잠수함, 수상 함정 등 모든 자원을 투입했다.
이에 미군도 핵추진 항공모함과 최신예 전투기 등을 투입해 대응하기 시작했고, 일본 역시 즉각 ‘국가비상사태’를 선포하며 미군을 적극 지원하기 시작했다.
자위대 기지는 물론 오키나와현, 규슈 지역 민간 공항까지도 미군이 군사적으로 이용할 수 있도록 허용했다.
일본은 중국군이 자위대 기지를 직접 공격할 계획을 세운 것을 알게되자, 이를 빌미로 ‘집단 자위권’을 발동해 공식적으로 참전한다.
일본은 해상자위대 호위함과 항공자위대 F-35 전투기 등을 투입해 중국군을 공격했다.
전투는 약 2주간에 걸쳐 진행됐고, 결과는 중국의 완벽한 패배로 정리됐다.
중국은 미국과 일본에게 대만 상공의 제공권을 빼앗기면서 군수물자 보급이 중단돼 더이상 전쟁을 이어갈 수 없는 상황에 놓였다.
하지만 약 2주간의 전투로 참전국들은 모두 막대한 피해를 입는 것으로 나타났다.
먼저 중국은 항공모함 2척을 포함한 156척의 함정, 전투기 168대, 대형수송기 48대 등을 잃는 것으로 추산됐다. 인적 피해는 무려 4만명에 달했다. 중국 해군은 1만여명 이상 사상자가 발생하며 궤멸됐고 수만 명이 포로로 붙잡혔다.
미국은 함정 19척, 항공기 400대를 잃고, 약 1만700명의 사상자가 발생할 것으로 추산됐다.
일본 자위대는 호위함 등 함정 15척, F2와 F3 등 전투기 144대를 잃는 것으로 나왔다. 또한 중국이 일본 본토의 자위대 기지를 공격, 자위대원 2500명의 사상자가 발생하는 한편 민간인 사상자 역시 천명 이상 나올 것으로 추산됐다.
대만의 사상자는 1만3000명에 이르고 함선 18척, 항공기 200대를 잃는 것으로 나왔다.
이같은 결과에 대해 와타나베 쓰네오(渡部恒雄) 사사카와 평화재단 상석연구원은 "대규모의 손해를 입을 것을 상정하고 모든 준비를 해야 한다"면서 "중국은 미국과의 전쟁을 피하려 하고 있다. (중국 역시 이러한 결과를 알기에) 물리적인 충돌 없이 대만과 통일하려 할 우려도 있다"고 지적했다.
한편, 사사카와평화재단의 이번 시뮬레이션 결과는 지난 1월 미국 전략국제문제연구소(CSIS)가 실시한 결과와 유사했다.
CSIS는 24개의 시나리오를 상정해 분석했는데, 대부분 결과에서 중국의 대만 침공은 실패했으며 참전국 모두가 적지않은 피해를 입을 것으로 예측했다.
