[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 영·호남과 충청의 삼남지방에서 가장 많은 희생이 난 의거로 기록된 함안군 ‘군북 3.20독립만세운동’을 기리는 기념행사가 20일 군북 3.1독립운동기념탑 앞에서 개최됐다.
(사)군북 3.1독립운동기념사업회(회장 황용광)가 주관한 이날 행사에는 조근제 함안군수, 도·군의원, 김종술 경남동부보훈지청장, 관내 기관·단체장, 유족대표, 지역주민, 39사단 장병 등 700여 명이 참석했다.
이날 행사는 제례행사를 시작으로 만세운동 재현과 시가행진, 남선희 경상대 교수의 진혼무, 기념식, 풍물 한마당과 기공체조 공연 등의 식후행사 순으로 이어졌다.
특히 군북중학교에서 공설운동장까지 이어진 만세운동 재현행사 행렬은 일제의 무력 탄압에도 굴하지 않고 대한독립만세를 외치며 격렬히 저항했던 1919년 3월 그 날의 독립만세운동을 떠올리게 했다.
조근제 군수는 “이번 행사는 코로나19 이후 4년만에 개최되어 더욱 의미가 깊다. 우리 지역의 자랑스러운 역사를 재현하면서 선열들의 애국정신을 느껴볼 수 있었던 뜻깊은 시간이었다”며 “군에서도 조국의 독립을 위해 애쓴 선열들의 희생이 헛되지 않도록 애국지사 선양과 함안의 역사를 재조명하는 데에 힘을 쏟겠다”고 말했다.
