[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 고성군 하일면 자란도가 해양수산부 주관 2023년 소외도서 항로 운영 지원사업 공모에 최종 선정되는 쾌거를 거뒀다.
소외도서 항로 운영 지원사업은 해양수산부가 전략적으로 추진하는 사업으로, 여객선·도선이 기항하지 않고 대체교통수단이 없는 소외도서 주민에게 유류비 등 항로 운영비용 일부를 지원해 도서 지역주민의 기본권과 이동권을 보장하는 데 목적이 있는 국책사업이다.
이번에 선정된 자란도는 21가구 27명이 살고 있으나, 정기 운항 선박이 없는 데다 고령의 마을주민들이 대부분이라 해상교통권 확보가 어려운 곳이었다.
이에 군과 지역민은 어려운 여건 속에서도 자란도 주민의 교통환경을 개선하고자 힘을 모아 공모를 준비해 왔다.
지난 2월 공모 신청 후 한 달간 경남도와 지방해양수산청에서 검토했으며, 해양수산부의 서면 및 발표 평가를 통해 최종 선정됐다.
이에 따라 선박확보 비용을 제외한 인건비, 유류비, 선박검사·수리비 등 선박 운항에 필요한 비용을 지원받게 됐다.
김성영 해양수산과장은 “이번 공모 선정으로 자란도 거주 주민들의 이동권이 보장될 뿐만 아니라, 현재 자란도에서 추진되고 있는 관광사업과 연계해 더욱 시너지를 낼 수 있을 것으로 기대된다”며 “교통-관광사업 연계로 인근 마을과 지역 상권까지 활력이 돌 수 있도록 사업 추진에 최선을 다하겠다”고 전했다.
한편, 고성군 자란도에는 해양치유센터 건립사업, 지역관광 개발사업, 해양웰니스 포레스트 조성사업 등 해양 치유 서비스와 연계한 지역 관광자원 개발 및 민간 투자 사업이 추진되고 있다.
