[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 50년 의령군민의 노력으로 '의병의 날'을 국가기념일로 탄생시킨 '의병의 성지' 의령군이 '의령홍의장군축제'를 개최한다.
의령은 곽재우 장군이 임진왜란 당시 최초로 의병을 일으켰던 곳으로 전국에 의병활동이 들불처럼 퍼져나가는 '도화선' 역할을 했다.
오는 20일부터 23일까지 의령 서동생활공원 일원에서 '의령홍의장군축제'가 개최된다.
특히 올해부터는 반세기 가까이 열렸던 의병제전이 축제명을 '의령홍의장군축제'로 바꿔 새 출발 한다.
의령군은 이번 첫 번째 홍의장군축제를 전환점으로 '의병'이 과거만의 역사가 아닌 지금 우리에게 필요한 시대정신으로 삼고 '의병의 가치'를 전파하고자 한다.
군은 기존 의병제전의 '추념'을 넘어 지금 이 시대 '왜 다시 의병인가'를 성찰하고, '의병정신'을 통합의 마중물과 발전의 기폭제로 활용하겠다는 의지다.

의령군은 축제 기간에 민초들의 화합으로 이룬 정의(正義)의 결정판으로 '의병정신'을 치켜세우며 지금 시대에 매우 중요한 통합, 화합의 구심점으로 의병을 삼고자 한다.
위기 앞에 의연히 일어선 희생정신과 '정의와 공동체'라는 목표를 위해 모두를 끌어안은 의병들의 통합과 화합의 정신을 다시금 일깨우고 싶은 것이 이번 축제의 최종 목표다.
이번 축제에는 의령군의 담대한 도전도 담았다.
축제를 아우르는 주제 역시 의령의 새로운 각오를 밝히는 '다시 타오르는 붉은 함성'이다.
의병의 날을 만든 의령군은 의병 정신을 전 세계에 알릴 '의병엑스포'를 장기적으로 구상 중이다.
축제 기간 나흘 동안 시대별·지역별 전국 의병을 한자리에서 만나는 '전국 의병주제관'은 의령엑스포 미리보기로 화제를 예고하고 있다.
"우리 모두가 의병, 홍의장군이 되어 모두 모였다"라는 축제 구호에 걸맞게 홍의장군축제 기간에 의령에 오면 누구나 의병이 된다.
축제 기간에 의령에 오면 모든 신체 기관이 바빠질 준비부터 해야 한다. 그야말로 온몸으로 의병을 느낄 수 있다.
우선 ‘역사계의 라이징 티처’로 불리는 역사학자 심용환의 '의병역사콘서트'로 '머리'에 가볍게 지식을 입력하고, 라이브 드로인과 미디어아트를 통해 홍의장군과 의병의 상징을 보여주는 '페인터즈 드로잉 쇼'로 '손'을 연신 움직이게 된다.
또 축제 시작을 알리는 의병출정 퍼레이드와 당당한 발걸음으로 세상을 밝히는 횃불 행진을 두 '다리'로 따라 걷다 보면 의병과 온전히 하나가 되는 나를 느낄 수 있다.
곽재우 장군과 17장령, 그리고 이름없는 의병까지 이들의 삶과 투쟁을 재조명한 창작주제공연과 함께 밤하늘 상공에 떠올라 ‘승리의 그날, 의병 승리의 함성’을 형형색색 빛깔로 표현하는 '드론멀티쇼'는 장관을 연출해 우리의 '눈'은 즐겁게, '입'은 감탄사를 자아낼 것이다.
느티나무에 큰 북을 매달아 치며 최초로 의병을 창의했던 1592년 4월 22일 그날처럼 구국의 혼을 깨우는 '북의 울림' 공연과 함께 시작하는 개막식은 새로운 홍의장군 축제 원년 선포의 의미까지 더해 모두의 '가슴'을 웅장하게 만드는 경험을 선사할 것이다.

유네스코 인류무형문화유산과 세계기네스북에 오른 ‘의령큰줄'은 6년 만에 다시 당겨진다.
세상 어디에도 없는 볏짚으로 만든 가장 길고, 굵은 줄의 형색에 첫 번째로 놀라고, 이천 명이 넘는 사람이 달라붙어 줄 댕기기 승부를 겨루는 장면에 두 번째로 놀라게 된다.

'어린이 홍의장군 선발대회'를 통해 영민한 어린이들을 위한 선물 보따리도 풀 예정이다.
홍의장군축제와 함께하는 동반 축제들도 특별한 즐길 거리다.
의령 토요애 수박축제, 이호섭가요제, 민속 소 힘겨루기 대회, 전국궁도대회, 전국의병마라톤대회, 군민화합콘서트 등 각자 다른 색깔을 가진 다채로운 선택지로 관광객들을 맞이한다.
