[브레이크뉴스=주윤한 기자] 지리산 천왕봉에 천연기념물 제242호인 까막딱따구리가 서식하고 있는 것으로 확인돼 관심이 집중됐다.
11일 함양군에 따르면 지리산 천왕봉을 300회 이상 등반한 함양군 문화시설사업소 김종남 공연예술담당이 지난 9일 지리산 등반 중 천연기념물 ‘까막딱따구리’ 모습을 포착했다.
지난 2021년부터 3년 연속 계속해서 4월에 같은 장소에서 관찰되고 있다.
김종남 담당은 “구체적인 장소를 밝히기는 어렵고 함양군 마천면 백무동에서 장터목대피소 가는 경로상 고지대에서 발견했다”고 전했다.
까막딱따구리는 딱따구리목 딱따구리과에 속하는 대형 딱따구리로 아시아와 유럽이 원산지이고. 식성은 잡식이며 극동혹개미와 하늘소를 주 먹이로 삼으며, 높은 위기의 멸종위기등급을 받았다.
크기는 46cm 정도이고 무게는 320g 정도이며, 천적은 찌르레기와 날다람쥐, 담비이다.
이마에서 뒷머리로 이어지는 부분을 제외하고는 온몸이 까마귀처럼 까맣기 때문에 ‘까막딱따구리’라는 이름이 붙었다.
한국에서는 1973년 4월 12일 천연기념물 제242호로 지정됐다.
