[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 2019년 이후 코로나로 인해 중단됐던 맹종 대나무 축제가 거제 맹종죽테마파크에서 4년 만에 개최된다.
이번 축제는 28일부터 3일간 진행되며 죽순 껍질 벗기기, 죽순 수확, 죽순요리 시식 등 체험행사와 마술공연, 대나무통 소원쓰기 등 다양한 이벤트가 준비돼 있다.
국비 등 44억7,000여만원을 투입해 2012년 5월 개장한 거제 맹종죽테마파크는 10만4,844㎡ 면적에 3만여 그루의 대나무가 숲을 이루고 있다.
맹종죽을 이용해 목걸이·연필꽂이 등을 만드는 공예체험, 맹종죽 숲에서 어드벤처를 즐기는 모험의 숲 등 다양한 프로그램이 마련돼 있어 가족 단위 관람객이 많이 찾는다.
바다가 보이는 죽림욕장과 편백숲길, 대나무지압 숲길에는 도심의 7배에 달하는 피톤치드와 음이온이 발생해 심신의 피로를 풀어준다.
미세먼지와 황사가 기승을 부리는 요즘, 힐링하기 좋은 장소다.
코로나 시기에도 10만명이 넘는 입장객 수를 꾸준히 유지하던 맹종죽 테마파크는 다시 예전의 인기를 회복하고 있는 중이다.

한반도 남부지역에서 자라는 맹종죽은 높이 10~20m, 지름 20cm 정도로 대나무 중 가장 굵다.
껍질에 흑갈색의 반점이 있고 윤기가 적으며 단단하다.
1926년 하청면 신용우씨가 일본 산업시찰 후 귀국하면서 3주의 맹종죽을 본인 집 앞에 심은 것이 맹종죽 재배의 시초가 됐다.
